Long Overdue

Okay, it's been over a year. I've no excuse, although I have been reading and commenting on your journals in lieu of actual posts.

In a quick year in review, here are the salient points:
  • My last post mentioned getting hired by Parks Canada as a student cartograper. Best summer job I ever had, and it paid twice as much as any other job I've worked.

Apparently there is a lot of jobs there in my field. What's living there like? Cost of living? Things to do?

Living here? It's not too bad to be honest, lots of Easterners out here so you would pretty much feel at home. Cost of living is a more expensive than out east (so for example Declan and I's three bedroom half-duplex was 205,000) and groceries especially fruit and veg can be a little pricy. I think gas prices should be pretty comparable here to there. The one thing is cost of living is very easily offset by the fact that wages here are VERY good and you work a lot. Even working at McDonalds you make 11-12 and up to 14-15 dollars an hour, so in a skilled profession like yours, you'd likely be doing pretty well ( ... )

I'm not really a Tim's fan, but only two of them for a city that big?

Anyway, thanks for the info! Fort St John doesn't sound like too bad a place to live.
