incidentally, if you dig a little, you can probably find the data showing that the number of car accidents actually spiked after 9/11 because people were afraid of flying (which is statistically safe) so they drove everywhere and made car accidents more likely

in other words, it's not just poisoning us metaphorically; it's literally killing us.
