Writing

Nov 04, 2007 20:07

Okay, so I'm not going to confess to participating in Nanowrimo. Really. If I confessed to that, something would happen to prevent me writing another word for the rest of November. I'd probably get ten broken fingers or temporary amnesia or something. And with my life being as hectic as it is, there's no way I could ever finish a novel in one ( Read more... )

WOW! 3K in one day, congrats. LOL on the writer's block, I've had writer's block since before I was born. :)

Ooh, a vampire novel, can't wait to read it!

ok, this will sound weak. i did the first 3 days ok, but i just have no heart for this. i love the story i want to write, but for some reason, writing it at this point -- there's nothing there. it's not block; it's a lack of something essential in the telling of the story that leaves me with zero will to work on it. overall, i'm pretty wiped of energy at times now.

did i mention in here yet that Alex's National Guard unit is apparently scheduled to head to Afghanistan about next June or July? i wonder if that might have some effect on things.

anyway, i'm proud of you for just doing the damn work. it's very "Bird by Bird" -- you write with no concern for quality, just for the writing itself. maybe i'll get back to this one later, or maybe i'll wake up tomorrow and feel like pushing on. we'll see. now i have to chase you!

and i second that on nefriti's great icon. best political ad i've seen in a while.

That's block! That's the kind of block that I've had for the last year.

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that Alex is going to go to Afghanistan. How very stressful. No wonder you're feeling wiped. *HUGE HUG*

i think of block as having an empty head, no ideas, not a single word. this is different, but i guess if it gets in the way of writing, it counts as block. but it's really just with fiction and NaNo. the political blogging is ok, apart from my lousy writing habits. the two kinds of writing, no 3 that's three kinds of writing, i most prefer or want to do: political essays, poetry and graphic novels. NaNo is not the right format for me ( ... )

oh, and i meant to say, i'm glad i understand what you meant by block. i was puzzled that you had no ideas or such; the more usual notion of what block is. one that is emotionally based, oy, much more insidious. but the cure is probably still the same: write. if i didn't have some outlets for work, i'd be long gone. at least in this case, it's just the wrong format. i hope you can keep moving forward.

Way cool. I love vampire stories. Good for you for going back to writing. I've actually got two books in mind to write and started both, but I sorely lack the discipline to work on them. I envy your fortitude and dedication.

Is Nanowrimo a contest?

Good for you getting going on Nano again! I'm on the road and have forgotten my ID from last year. When I get home I'll try again. However, after managing about 3600 words last year, I'm at a loss this year for an idea. Maybe I can try the same one again, altho I guess that, strictlly speaking, that's against the rules of Nano.

Speaking of vampires, are you watching the new TV series Moonlight? My new fave. Maybe that's my problem, I'm spending too much time watching other people's stories on TV instead of creating one of my own. Also spending too much time on the moonlightfans.com forum.

Anyway...

I like the idea of writing short scenes about some characters. Maybe I'll try that to get some momentum going. I've had a lot of fun writing drabbles recently, so that's a start.

I am! I've been watching it since you mentioned it to me before, so I've gotten to see the last two episodes now. I like it.

The storyline about the vamp blood being a powerful drug sounds like it's straight out of a popular vampire series...The Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. (I've only read half of the first one and then I got distracted and put it down, never to find it again...so I guess that's not a glowing recommendation).

I enjoy the relationship between the main characters. Mr. Vampire is a studmuffin.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of a Vamp/Fantasy version of the first several seasons of the USA show, Silk Stalkings. (After the first few seasons, they changed up the cast, and the show no longer had the same chemistry).

John sits in the room while I'm watching it and complains that Mr. Vampire and Reporter Girl are the "worst actors ever," and that the writing is "poorly done, like bad Angel fanfic," so I guess he just doesn't get it, but personally, I like it very much.

Oooh, and I just realized that the blonde from Moonlight was on an ep of Doctor Who Season 2.
