Practicality is so overrated! I've been contemplating a giant "stove-pipe"/tall crown hat (whatever you want to call it) and I ask you, is that practical? ;P
Practical no, but I want one too! That and a giant black Gainsbourgh hat of course. I'm almost out of buckram though so I'll need to order more before I can do either! And we are back to practicality. Moo.
I'm sure black will be great, but I have to say, I loved the green and raspberry from the tea--it's a unconventional combination that just looks really period! Good luck with the hat!
I definitely wouldn't call your outfit from the tea garish. They were bright colors, but they really worked together. (Can you tell I'm really taken with that outfit? ;-) )
Thanks! I did like it and the fact the combo was almost garish. I was really going for almost obnoxious, just for the fun of it. :P I'm just wanting something different, mostly so it will feel like "new".
Oh my heavens! Where did you get all these GLORIOUS images! I have never seen most of them- and now they have been added to my files- thanks! I also fully support all manner of big hat! The bigger the better!
I'm so bad about writting down where I get these things! Most of the fashion plates came from Journal des Luxus und der Moden though - which I found from jenthompson's mad online reasearching skills.
(Click "Blättern" to browse through each year/month. Look for the entry that says "Innhalt" for the fashion plates. Most months have 2 fashion plates and one decorative furniture pic, hit the arrow button at the top of the image page (when it says 1/2 or 1/3) to view all the images from that month. I took a couple of hours on day to go through it month by month, which was a bit tedious I'll admit but I didn't want to miss anything! Jen also suggested searching by "Suche", or terms like robe, redingote, caraco, turque, etc.)
