Health Issues

Jan 16, 2007 00:38

I've been having some health issues since October. I haven't talked about them on here at all. I have another journal for more private stuff. Sparing everyone the TMI details I found out last November that I have uterine fibroids and an ovarian cyst. The ovarian cyst seems to be tending to itself and the issue is resolving. The fibroids, however, ( Read more... )

I try to think of the cysts as a war going on inside my body...Gives me comfort at having a crater where half an ovary should be...Poor lefty... :(

If they do lap, get pictures...Then, you'll have something to whip out whenever someone asks what's wrong with you. ;)

The most you can do right now is wait and see...Make a list of your symptoms and also what you want out of a treatment (e.g. - preservation of fertility), and see what they can give you that fits all of the needs...That way, you will have the control, and they won't be able to give you a list that makes your head spin and leaves you with a bunch of questions.

There's at least three drugs in clinical development for fibroids right now, but seems to be nothing right now that directly addresses them. If you are suffering excessive bleeding (the month-long period), the doctor may suggest Aygestin or Provera, which are the only two I see that are approved to treat uterine bleeding due to fibroids.

One gal I knew got some relief from a homeopathic specialist, but then again, she was a real believer in that stuff.

I'll be sure to ask them about drug treatments. She mentioned hormone treatments none of which I want to endure.

Let me know if you have any questions once you speak to your doctor. I work in a Endocrinology dept. in Women's Health and we have an active interest in uterine fibroids.

What sort of interest? clinical trials? research?

There does seem to be a big vague grey spot when it comes to fibroids.

Well shite!

A couple of weeks ago, I was on the DC metro, wherein I saw a sign for some non-surgical cure (or at least relief) for fibroids. At the time, I noted it, thought it interesting, but did not commit any of the info to memory, as I knew no one with any such difficulty (and my brains hard drive is pretty full).

Perhaps a call to the DC metro's advertising department for info? Can't hurt...
