Computers- feh!

My desktop went tits up. I knew it was coming as evidenced by the most awful noises coming from the hard drive. Fortunately I backed up as best I could to my ancient East German laptop, but it's barely limping along as well.

What to do?

I wanna go Mac.  The most economical version would be to get a Mac Mini for $600 and hook it up to my remaining ( Read more... )

last season I finally gave up on Vista and got the 13.3 macbook and it's so awesome.

the touchpad alone gets my "technology innovation of the decade" award.

My older laptop had a 17! inch screen and I'll be honest..don't miss it. Oh, the zoom zoom macbook is 1700$..twocents :)

Thanks for letting me know you don't miss the bigger display. I've decided to go with the 13".

(I'm kinda excited! I love my iPhone like crazy and hope my computer experience compares.)

oh great now i'm gonna feel all conscious of it if you're not happy .bwah.bwah.

I've been a die hard pc person forever. But what turned me was that I was able to get everything I wanted to do on a laptop (*qualifier:not desktop) done on the macbook...within two days of having it!

No worries. Everyone agrees with you! I'll go look at 'em tomorrow and make sure but seems like a very good plan to me.

I'd go with the 13" MacBook and get the 24" LED Cinema display to plug the MacBook into at home. Significantly cheaper than the 17" MacBook Pro, and less awkward in public.

Very good point about the awkwardness of a 17-inch in public. Also, from what I read I don't need the firepower of the new Pros.

The display is a great idea, and although cool- seems expensive for whatcha get. So I'll hold off on that for now. But definitely something to think about for later. I'm actually more likely to spend extra $$ to set up a Bluetoof speaker system. :)

Thanks!

I'm guessing that the kitty thyroid treatment that you're talking about is of the radioactive isotope type. I balked at the price myself when one of my cats was ill, but with an earlier cat I had opted for a strictly meds-based (and cheaper) thyroid control approach, but apparently a certain number of cats can get a really bad reaction to the drugs, and unfortunately she died as a result. When the my other cat also got the same disease, I was pretty guilt-ridden from my earlier experience, so I opted for the radiation treatment for her. My bill for that was like $900 or so, but my cat did live for another 3-4 years. It's not an easy decision to make ( ... )

Thanks for the good review on the radioactive isotope treatment. They've recently opened a clinic here in Austin that does it, but they're more expensive than other places. But the other nearest place is SanAntonio and Spot doesn't do well in the car (and sedation didn't work). I've already spent almost $300 just to get the initial consultation and some x-rays (Spot has a heart murmur and they wanted to make sure there weren't any major problems related to that which might affect his lifespan.) How old was your kitty upon receiving the treatment?

Why do you think the iMac would have been better?
