1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Worked towards an MLA? That seems like kind of a copout, but I can't think of anything new I did this year. Maybe drawing an entire picture, start to finish, on the computer with my tablet? I've had a tablet for years, but until this year, my computer was so laggy I couldn't actually sketch or ink with it. I also hosted dinner-type parties on a fairly regular basis, something that I'd not really toyed with doing. I've always tended to leave the party-throwing to my sisters and my mom. But, turns out I rather like it.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Nope, and probably. Because I do not learn.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A couple folks produced some distressingly cute offspring, including feyr and his awesome wife. A lot of people I know in meatspace got knocked up, too. It's like a plague. A baby-producing plague.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I can recall off the top of my head. Which doesn't necessarily mean that no one close to me died; it just means that my concept and memory of time is so warped that I don't remember what year it was when they kicked the bucket. Grandparents managed to hang on for another year because, as I keep reminding my mother, they are too goddamn ornery to die. For serious.
5. What countries did you visit?
Once again stayed within the confines of my hometown.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A job? Some idea what I'm doing with my life? Doesn't have to be a five/ten/twenty year plan, just a vague idea would suffice at this point, instead of the nebulous void that opens up in my soul whenever anyone asks me what I'm doing after grad school.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory?
None that I can think of. Not a lot of "ZOMG" moments this year.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not tearing out a few people's throats with my teeth. Seriously. I may have also entertained delicious fantasies of popping a particular someone's eyes out of their sockets and crushing them like overripe grapes.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not losing weight/working out/eating healthily for longer than a couple weeks at a time. Also my failure to do well in my Dante class. Or any of my classes, really. I got by with an A- in both Literary Criticism and American Girl in Literature and a B+ in Dante, but I get the feeling those were largely grades given, not so much earned.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I believe I had a deathcold at some point in the spring/early summer, and I keep twisting my knee when I sleep or something, but otherwise, not too bad.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The squeaky crabs to be given as prizes at the Shadwell Wake. I love the squeaky crabs.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The Laurels staff were pretty awesome (especially New Mary, who turned out to be amazing at Getting Things Done, which is great, because my give-a-fuck appears to have broken). The other folks in my American Girl in Literature class were amazing. Turns out, if you put me in a room full of intelligent, nerdy women, it makes me sohappy. <3
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The only one I can think off immediately is a friend who is going through a lot of drama with his significant other. Also, the object of the aforementioned eyesquishing fantasies. And the folks arguing for DADT. Because, really? Really?
14. Where did most of your money go?
I got a little money from Laurels, which sits in my savings account, feeling sad and unloved.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
As I mentioned, my give-a-fuck is broken, and as such I didn't get super super excited about too many things. I did some squeeing over Glee, though.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Anything by Katy Perry augh why do you exist. You are like a less interesting Lady Gaga.

Happier or sadder: Not sure. Sadder, I think.
Thinner or fatter: The same. Almost to the pound--I lost weight during the spring semester, gained it back during summer and fall. Boo.
Richer or poorer: a wee tiny bit richer, due to Laurels payments.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercising, job-hunting. Writing, drawing. Parties.

Wasting time. Stressing.

This year we had a Christmas Eve lunch at our house, for family togetherness time and gift-exchanging. Then I had grandma-sitting duty that afternoon/evening, and afternoon on Christmas day.

No, just continued on with the same old crushes.

As far as school is concerned, oh god I read so many books this year** I cannot even tell you. I don't know. I loved The Lovely Bones, mostly because I adore that idea of heaven. In non-school books, I started both Machine of Death (also available for free, but I like having a dead-tree version as it is weighty and useful for smacking people) and apiphile's Pass the Parcel, and enjoyed what I've read of each quite a lot. I'm about halfway done with Pass the Parcel, and seem to have lost Machine of Death somewhere in the wilderness that is my house.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I rediscovered The Dismemberment Plan.
28. What did you want and get?
I do not know.
29. What did you want and not get?
Still waiting on that pony.

Did... Did I go out and see a movie this year? I don't think I did. I half-watched a couple with my sisters, but I can't remember most of them (and Emma is going through the same teenage phase become_a_robot went through, where she only watches horror movies, all of which suck these days).

I turned 26. Didn't celebrate my birthday. It was the first day of summer classes, so I went to a fiction workshop.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
That pony. The ability to focus. Not being tired all the time.

"Cover that shit up, no one wants to see it." Same as always.

Laurels, definitely.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Still loving Nathan Fillion. I also wish to lick most of the cast of Glee. Fortunately, they are all of legal age for licking. I checked. Also kind of hopelessly in love with Matt Damon. Thanks, 30 Rock.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Gay rights, universal health care. In favor of both. The repeak of DADT made me happy.
37. Who did you miss?
Jonathan, who I haven't seen since last Christmas and haven't spoken to in a while. Travis, who left us to teach in South Korea and loves it so much he may never return. A number of Laurels folk graduated, which means I haven't seen much of them since spring/summer.
38. Who were the best new people you met?
Everyone in my American Girl in Literature class; they were all pretty damn awesome. Also New Mary, who turned out to be an excellent addition to Laurels.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
I have no idea what I am doing.

You know, this year "Defying Gravity" was supposed to be my 'theme' song, cheesy as it sounds. But it wasn't. "I'm not that girl" would be a much closer fit, as would the Dismemberment Plan's "Gyroscope" and "The City".
