“Demons.” Jon confirmed, looking directly at Pete. “Several attacks.”

“Yeah, we…” Pete nodded slowly, hesitantly gesturing towards Gabe. “We know.”

“Two of them attacked me last night.” Gabe added, and William felt once again a knot in his throat. It felt like it had been days, but it had been barely 24 hours. “They were working together.”

“There must be something going on.” Patrick put down his fork, forgetting about breakfast. “Demons don’t do teams, and they don’t attack so often.”

“You think there could be someone behind this?” Maja asked, frowning a bit.

“I don’t know. Maybe.” Patrick bit on his lower lip, his expression thoughtful.

“We put toget--” Jon stopped at the perplexed look on Spencer’s face. “Okay, I painted the living room walls and Spence put together a folder with what he managed to find out about this kind of behavior.”

“It’s not much, I didn’t have a library with proper material.” Spence added with a little smile.

“Don’t get me wrong, Spencer, but weren’t you two supposed to be out of the business?” Pete raised an eyebrow, confused.

“That’s what I said too.” Jon confirmed, and Spencer glared at him, causing David to snicker. “Until a dude was attacked at the campus a week ago.”

“Demons attacks in public areas are rare.” Gabe observed, frowning. “I was quite isolated.”

“That’s why we need to dig deeper into this.” Spencer took an envelope from his bag. “I thought I could use the library and do more research.”

“What about college?” Patrick eyed the thick envelope and raised an eyebrow.

“If the number of demons attacks grows exponentially, this thing will turn into a--”

“No.” Pete stopped Spencer, glaring. “Don’t say that word.”

“If this thing grows, it’ll be war.” Spencer finished, ignoring Pete’s threatening stare. “And college will be the last of our thoughts.”

“Good point.” William nodded, tilting his head to the side.

“There’s no need to worry about war yet.” Patrick offered Pete a little reassuring smile. “Let’s just look into it and make sure it doesn’t grow.”

“Right.” Jon nodded, taking a step towards the table. “Any pancakes left?” He asked with a grin, causing both Pete and Spencer to roll their eyes.

“Sure.” Ryan smiled and turned to pick the plate he’d been preparing before they had arrived. A few seconds later he turned and saw Spencer had sat down as well. “You know, if you’re temporarily back in the business, it’d be easier if you didn’t have to go back and forth every time.” He suggested with a smirk.

“Do you happen to have a spare room?” Jon looked at Pete and Patrick, while Spencer just raised an eyebrow.

“There will always be a spare room for you, guys.” Patrick replied as he reached for his fork.

“Aww, cute family moments.” David beamed from his seat next to Gabe and dodged the butter knife Pete threw at him. “Mean! Pattycake, say something!”

Everyone looked at the spirit and saw Patrick’s knife hit him on the stomach, quickly followed by the fork. “You sneaky, filthy bastard.” Patrick hissed, reaching for something else while the group tried not to laugh. And failed.

William looked at the werewolf, then at David, trying to repress the fit of hysterical laughter that was tickling his chest. When he gave up he buried his face against Gabe’s shoulder and shook in silent giggles.

When Patrick dig in his pocket and finally found the salt, David’s laughter died and Patrick grinned. “What now?”

“Pierre!” David stood quickly and ran for the door, but before he could reach it, Patrick hit him with the salt. David yelped and disappeared for a few seconds. When he appeared again, he was pouting in Patrick’s direction. “You have no sense of humor. It fucking stings!”

“Want more?” Patrick offered with a grin, and David flipped him off, stomping out of the room. “And if anyone here says a single word about the nickname I’ll do that with real bullets.”

“Don’t worry, Patrick.” Gabe replied, barely repressing another fit of laughter.

“Not a word.” Brendon assured with a snicker.

“I missed this place.” Spencer grinned wickedly in Patrick’s direction.

“I’m not included, right?” Pete asked without lowering his voice, and the werewolf groaned, knowing he was far from safe. He was going to kill David, somehow.

Later that day

Gabe had been standing in the corridor for a few minutes, trying to put together a speech or something remotely similar. Trying to repress the urge to use Bryce as a punchball. Eventually, he knocked on the door, taking a deep breath.

Bryce’s voice replied and Gabe felt relieved he wasn’t going to have to deal with a wolf, but with a human. He felt less relieved when he opened the door and saw Bryce.

“I was hoping you’d be ugly or stuff.” Gabe said after a few seconds, stepping inside. He closed the door behind him and felt the werewolf tense. “Relax, I’m not here to shoot you.”

“Bill told you.” Bryce whispered, guilt clouding his eyes.

“Bill told me.” Gabe confirmed and took a few steps towards the boy. “And you have no idea how badly I want to beat the shit out of you, right now.”

“What’s stopping you?” Bryce’s voice was cautious, maybe curious, but not provocative as Gabe had expected.

“For some reason William likes you, he cares about you.” Gabe’s jaw tightened at his own words. “And I’m not gonna force him to choose, because that would hurt him.” Bryce looked surprised by that and Gabe’s eyes narrowed.

“The kiss was my fault. But if I could go back, I’d do it again.” Bryce didn’t look away, and Gabe almost gave in to the urge to kick him in the face. “You have no idea what you put him through, disappearing like that.” Bryce quickly stood from the bed.

“Don’t talk about stuff you don’t know.” Gabe warned him, furious. “I made a mistake, but d’you really think you did better?” He took another step towards the werewolf. “You took advantage of his pain.”

“I was giving him the support he needed.” Bryce held the vampire’s gaze, equally angry.

“By trying to get in his pants? Curious way to give him the support he needed.” Gabe retorted, his eyes flashing grey. “William’s mine, and trust me, you don’t want to lay a single finger on him again.”

“William is not a property.”

“That’s not what I meant, little bastard, and you know it.” Gabe looked directly in the boy’s eyes again and saw surprise and guilt there.

“Treat him right and you won’t have to worry about me.” Bryce replied, lowering his voice but keeping his tone steady. Gabe looked at him for a few seconds, then turned and reached the door. “Gabe.” Bryce’s voice sounded different, almost regretful, and the vampire turned again.

“What?”

“I really am sorry.” Bryce admitted, gaining a frown from Gabe. “It won’t happen again.” He did a long pause and shifted his weight from one leg to the other. “Thanks for not asking me to leave.”

“You managed to yell at me, apologize and thank me in something like five minutes.” Gabe arched an eyebrow. “Bipolar or just confused?”

Bryce let out a soft laughter at that. “Confused.” He admitted, not looking away. “I ran all the way from Dallas and Bill has been the only one who helped me.” Bryce saw the surprise on Gabe’s face at those words. “He’s the only one I’ve got left.”

“As much as I’d rather not say this, you’re part of this family now.” Gabe showed a tentative smile, leaning against the door. “Stay away from my mate’s pants and this can work out fine.”

“Your mate?” Bryce seemed to be genuinely surprised, and Gabe actually smiled.

“Almost-mate.” Gabe admitted, shoving his hands in his pockets. “The ritual will be… uh, sometime in the near future.”

“Bill didn’t tell me.” Bryce briefly looked down, then his eyes met Gabe’s again. “I mean, he explained the whole mating thing, but he didn’t tell me about you two.”

“I figured.” Gabe felt his heart clench a bit at that and gave in to the urge to let the words spill out from him. “Maybe he was too busy with your tongue down his throat.”

Bryce looked at the wall on his left and bit on his lip and Gabe could feel his emotions getting stronger, more confused. He could detect guilt, anger, and surprisingly, shame. “I had no idea you two were this serious.”

“Listen.” Gabe started, taking a couple of steps towards the boy. “It’s been a complicated week, and I know you meant well when you glued yourself to Bill’s ass, so maybe we should…” Gabe took a deep breath. “Maybe we should forget about all this and just go back to our lives.”

“You think you can do that?” Bryce turned to look at him, surprised.

“I can try.” Gabe showed a little smile and chuckled. “And for fuck’s sake, make that kicked puppy look go away.”

Bryce raised both his eyebrows and Gabe shook his head, turning towards the door. “Puppy my ass!”

“That’s better.” Gabe threw him a last glance and opened the door. “See you around, then.”

“We’re too old for this stuff.” Pete let himself fall back on the bed, sighing.

“Speak for yourself.” Patrick addressed him a smirk, and Pete chuckled. The werewolf reached him and straddled his lap. “Seriously, though, retirement could be an option.”

They looked at each other for a few seconds, then they both laughed. “Not ready to retire yet.” Pete grinned, bringing his hand to stroke Patrick’s back.

“We could always call Butch.” The werewolf suggested, his tone careful. “He deals with demons on a regular basis.”

“You call him. I don’t think he’d be happy to hear from me.” Pete replied with a wince. “Or we could ask Maja, they’re still on good terms.”

“Pete.” Patrick looked down at him, then climbed off his lap and sat on the bed next to him. “You know we can’t put Maja between you and Butch. He’s already been giving her a hard time since she moved in.”

“She didn’t tell me.” Pete sat up too, frowning.

“She told me, she’s not too eager to discuss the Butch Walker topic with you.” Patrick showed a little smile. “She’s thinking about telling Billie Joe and the guys.”

“Billie Joe doesn’t know yet?” Pete chuckled, shaking his head. “He’s not really fond of Butch either, he’ll probably have a fit or something.”

“I’d pay to see his face when Maja tells him.” Patrick admitted, grinning. “But we shouldn’t overthink this. If it turns out to be something seriously big, we’ll find a way to talk to Butch too.”

“Good.” Pete nodded slowly, a little smile on his lips. “I mean, this time it wasn’t me who caused the mess, right?”

“Well, we don’t know for sure. You’re a walking damage.” Patrick shrugged with fake doubt.

“Hey!” Pete looked offended and Patrick crawled up the bed to escape him. “I’m so gonna tickle you to death for that.”

“You won’t.” Patrick didn’t fight back when Pete pinned him to the bed and straddled his legs, keeping him down. “’Cause if you tickle-killed me, then I’d be gone and you’d be lost without me.”

Pete smiled and bent down to nib at Patrick’s bottom lip. “Always so fucking right.”

“See? That’s a word I like, fucking.” Patrick brought his hand to Pete’s neck, pulling him even closer. “We could do that, instead.”

“Dirty, dirty Pattycake.” Pete saw the flash of amusement in Patrick’s eyes and grinned. “You like it, you like the damn nickname.”

“I don’t.” Patrick retorted, but he didn’t even try to hide his grin and that definitely gave him away.

“You totally do.” Pete kissed his way down Patrick’s jaw and to his neck. “That’s okay, I like it too.”

“Start taking off your fucking clothes or I swear I’ll call you Filthy Petey for the rest of our sex life.” Patrick’s smirk widened at Pete’s glare, but the vampire took off his shirt anyway, revealing tattoo-marked skin and tensed muscles. “Still thinking about getting another of these?” Patrick’s fingers followed the outline of the ‘be free’ tattoo on Pete’s right wrist.

“Yep, a bat, here.” Pete pointed at his belly, right under his navel.

“Why a bat?” Patrick let out a soft laughter, baffled.

“Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies share my dread.” Pete declared with a solemn tone and Patrick looked at him for several seconds, his hands still on Pete’s arms.

“Pete, seriously, Batman Begins?” The werewolf asked, halfway between shocked and amused. “We’re about to fuck and you quote Batman Begins?”

“Hey, you asked!” Pete laughed, then lowered to place a kiss on Patrick’s chin. “But we’re not about to fuck.”

“Oh, really?” Patrick raised an eyebrow, not sure whether he was supposed to take Pete’s words seriously.

“Really.” Pete confirmed, then moved his lips up to Patrick’s mouth, locking their gazes together. “I’m about to make sweet sweet love to you, Pattycake.” He added with a sly grin, his tongue darting out to lick at Patrick’s bottom lip.

“Asshole.” The werewolf tried to push Pete off him, but the vampire just laughed and kissed him, muffled protests leaving Patrick’s lips.

Without breaking the kiss Pete slowly moved until he was lying next to Patrick, propped up on one elbow, his leg entwined with Patrick’s. His free hand crept under the werewolf’s shirt and stroked the soft skin soothingly, feeling Patrick melt under his touch. When his fingers reached Patrick’s side he tensed slightly, his fingertips catching the outline of a scar, the newest, one of the two Patrick got in his last encounter with Butcher. It wasn’t the first time he’d touched it, and it wasn’t the first scar Patrick got, but it always made him realize how close he’d gone to losing his mate.

Patrick sensed his reaction and slowly broke the kiss, opening his eyes to look up at him. “Hey.”

“Sorry.” Pete moved his fingers from the scar and reached Patrick’s hand, taking it in his own. “It’ll take a while to get used to it.”

Patrick nodded and placed another kiss on Pete’s lips. “It’s okay.”

“I didn’t want to kill the mood.” Pete admitted with a grin, lacing their fingers together. “Maybe we should sleep or something.”

“Sure.” Patrick smiled and nodded briefly, looking down. “Oldie.” He raised his gaze and Pete saw the smirk on his lips.

“Oh, well, it’s fucking on.” Pete mirrored the grin, moving quickly and straddling Patrick again. “Clothes. Off. Now.”

“Make me.” Patrick smiled smugly up at him, his fingers scratching gently at Pete’s abs.

“From cuddly to kinky in 3.5, I’m impressed.” Pete brought his hands to Patrick shirt, tugging at the hem. The werewolf helped him get the shirt off, then he pushed the vampire off him and made him lie down again, his arm circling Pete’s waist.

“Actually…” Patrick buried his face in Pete’s neck, smiling. “I was wondering if I could take you up on that thing you said about making sweet sweet love to me.”

“Really?” Pete brought his hand to Patrick’s back, stroking it slowly. “Look at me.”

Patrick withdrew enough to look at his mate, smiling. “Make fun of me and I’ll bite Pete junior off.”

Pete let out a soft laughter at that, then lowered to kiss the werewolf. “I won’t.”

“Good.” Patrick bit at Pete’s lower lip, then sucked it in his mouth. Pete’s hand wandered lower on Patrick’s back and stopped right above the waistband of his jeans. He muttered something in the kiss, and Patrick withdrew slowly. “What?”

“I love you.”

~~

Gabe entered the room and immediately registered William’s presence; when he realized the young vampire was sleeping, he closed the door slowly, trying to be silent. He reached the bed with a smile, his eyes never leaving William’s lying figure.

Bryce’s words came back to his mind and he felt the guilt clenching at his heart again. He knew the werewolf had been right, he shouldn’t have left William like that, but a part of him knew that if he hadn’t gotten hurt, things would have probably gone differently between him and William.

Gabe sat down next to the sleeping vampire and brought his hand up to brush a few strands of hair away from his cheek. Just a year before he’d been out on the streets, seducing young skinny boys and then feeding on them. In the week he’d been away he’d approached a few of his old potential victims, but he hadn’t done anything more than feeding; he couldn’t have done anything more even if he had wanted. In barely ten months William had changed him so much. William had completed him. And Gabe couldn’t afford losing him.

William moved his head to the side and opened his eyes a few seconds later. He blinked up at Gabe, a slow smile spreading on his lips.

“You’re beautiful.” Gabe whispered, stroking William’s cheek with the back of his hand.

“That’s a really nice way to wake me up.” William leaned into the touch, his eyes still sleepy.

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Gabe smirked and his hand trailed down to William’s neck, then stopped at the bite mark. “Did you get blood?”

William nodded and closed his eyes for a second, enjoying the feeling of Gabe’s fingers on the sensitive spot on his neck. “Don’t worry, I’m feeding properly.”

“You’re a growing boy.” Gabe grinned and moved his hand away, causing William to open his eyes again.

“Oh, fuck off.” William sat up slowly, biting back the smirk. He circled Gabe’s waist with an arm from behind and rested his chin on the vampire’s shoulder. “What’ve you been up to?”

“I had a little chat with Bryce.” Gabe felt William tense against his back. “Don’t worry, he still has all the bones in the right places.” William didn’t say anything and Gabe let out a little sigh. “I told him that as long as he keeps his hands off you, things will be fine and I won’t kick his ass.”

“You didn’t tell him to leave the house and never look back?” William sounded halfway between surprised and cautious.

“You care about him and he needs your help.” Gabe admitted, leaning back against William. “But don’t expect me to be too nice to him.”

“Gabe.” William whispered to his ear and his arm tightened its grip. “That was… you’re the best mate a vampire could dream of.”

“I’m not.” Gabe turned his head, and rested it back on William’s shoulder. “I’m the jerk that said stupid things then disappeared for a week thinking I had the right to be angry.”

“We both said stuff we didn’t mean.”

“You had the right to be upset.” Gabe took a deep breath and brought his hand to William’s, lacing their fingers together. “I had no right to act like that.”

“Then why did you do it?” William spoke softly, his words muffled against the fabric of Gabe’s hoodie.

“I was scared you were going to just shut me out.” Gabe admitted, his grip tightening on William’s hand. “When you do that, like you did when you got Mikey’s letter, I… there’s nothing I can do to get in again before you say so.” He closed his eyes, feeling the boy tense again. “I was scared you were going to shut me out for good and it made me freak out.”

“I always came back to you.” William whispered, turning his head and letting his lips brush against Gabe’s neck. “I always will. No matter what.”

“And I’ll never walk away like that again.” Gabe promised, feeling the boy smile against his skin. “And if I ever act like a jerk again, you can slap me. Several times.”

William laughed at that, and Gabe broke the hug and turned. “Yeah, I think I’ll do that.”

“So we’re okay, dollface?” Gabe looked down at their joined hands, then up again in the boy’s eyes.

“We’re okay.” William nodded and pulled Gabe in a quick kiss. The older vampire smiled and brought his free hand to the back of William’s neck. The hunter was about to say something else, but his cell phone started to ring and he stretched to take it from the nightstand. “It’s Mike.” He announced with a frown and flipped the phone open. “What’s up?”

“Is it about Cassie?” Gabe asked with a frown, worried. “Is she okay?”

William gestured him to wait and listened to his friend. “Yeah, I’ll call Patrick and the others, don’t worry, just stay with her, we’ll be there.” He nodded a couple of times even though he knew Mike couldn’t see him, then flipped his phone shut.

“Something wrong?” Gabe tried to look at William in the eye.

“They’re at the hospital, Cassie’s having the baby.” William looked up with a grin, jumping to his feet. “We have to warn Patrick and Sisky, oh, and Haley and Keltie.”

“The world is so not ready for another Carden.” Gabe stood as well, and followed William out of the room.

~~

Later that evening

William walked quickly down the hospital corridor, followed by Gabe, Pete, Ryan, Brendon and Tom. They had been forced to wait until sunset before going to the hospital. Bob and Dirnt had stayed at the manor to keep an eye on it, and Bryce had gone back to his wolf form, so he’d stayed at home as well.
When William spotted Haley, Keltie and the others, he walked faster, a wide smile on his lips.

“How’s she doing?” Pete reached Patrick, looking at him expectantly.

“Cursing at everything that moves.” Haley informed him with a little smirk. “Mike’s in there with her.”

“I don’t envy him right now.” Gabe grinned, shaking his head.

“Ten dollars he grabs the kid and runs.” Tom patted his pocket, looking at his friends. Ryan laughed and Spencer rolled his eyes.

“Shouldn’t we be betting on the gender?” Jon asked with a frown, and Billie Joe burst out laughing.

“Fifty dollars it’s a boy.” Pete said immediately, looking at Jon.

“Fifty dollars and a blowjob it’s a girl.” Brendon replied, convinced. Ryan slapped him on the arm hard enough to make him jump back in surprise. “Hey!”

“You’re not paying a blowjob if you lose, and you’re definitely not receiving one if you win, you asshole.” Ryan glared, and Brendon scratched the back of his neck.

“Maybe it’s not a good idea.” Brendon admitted, causing Billie Joe to laugh again.

“Maybe?” Ryan arched an eyebrow, annoyed.

“Okay, then my sixty dollars and no blowjob are on the girl.” Brendon announced, looking at Jon.

“This is ridiculous.” Maja shook her head, stunned by her friends’ behavior. “I live with a bunch of hillbilly yokels.”

Billie Joe was about to reply, but the door next to them opened and a young nurse looked at the group, perplexed.

“You’re all Mr. Carden’s friends?” The nurse, Helena, asked with a little smile. At Patrick’s nod, she relaxed a bit. “Everything went well, both the mother and the baby are fine.”

“Thanks.” Patrick’s smile widened at that, and the nurse nodded before walking back in the room.

There was a long pause, then finally Sisky spoke, grinning from ear to ear. “Dude, Mike just became father.”

A/N: No, drama isn’t forgotten, don’t worry. But they deserve some happiness, don’t they? So yeah, here it is. :D And yep, you’ll have to wait until next chapter to know if it’s a she or a he.
I can’t believe I’m basing a cliffhanger on the baby’s gender. *palmface*

Also, Maja never talks about her past before the Manor and apparently she’s related to Butch Walker in some way (no, she’s not a werewolf, she’s human). Whoever guesses how she’s liked to him gets showers of cookies. *smirk*

And then, Tomrad is a vampire here. Another shower of cookies to whoever guesses who his Sire is. (Both answers will be given later in the story. XD)
Still, peace won’t last, just keep this in mind.
See you soon, folks! ;)<33333
