scout has a god-mother! she's a good friend of mine. she was the only one who visited him when he was in hospital years back and sat with me while we waited for the doctors to be done with Scout. Scout loves her to bits cos she wears yummy moisturizer and she brings him treats. if you want to be literal, my dog's god-mum scolds him when he doesn't behave!

sometimes it's just for fun and not everything has to be so literal.

I know, and I have no problem with the concept but I just find the nomenclature bizarre.  I mean, you can act like a godmother but to tell everyone that you "have a god-dog" just sounds pretty odd.  So does that mean I can have a god-bunny?  What if I treat my friend's car as well as though I own it, can I tell people I have a god-car?  I may not be a fundie Christian but I just feel that the prefix 'god-' is not intended to be used this way.

Out of curiosity, how did she start calling herself Scout's godmother?  Did she come up with it as a quip, and does she ever refer to Scout as her god-dog?

i told her she could be scout's god-mother cos scout loves her! i dont think she's ever referred to scout as her god-dog on her blog or to her friends but when she comes over, i tell scout, god-mom is here!

you could have a god-bunny or whatever but if your issue is with use of the god- prefix, then do you say 'oh my god' or 'good god'? i know someone who does and she says 'oh my tian' instead which irritates the shit out of me.

The thing about 'oh my God' (the way I see it) is that it's an exclamation which calls on God, kind of like "hey God, are you seeing this?" and that's what I always capitalise 'God' every time I type 'oh my God'.

And yeah, that's the thing: I have heard people refer to themselves as a godmother not in the Christian sense before and it never struck me as odd (e.g. in the context of being Scout's fairy godmother), but my issue is rather with referring a dog as your 'god-dog'.  I think there must be a reason why even though you and her both refer to her as Scout's godmother, neither of you have ever referred to Scout as her god-dog.

I like it! Does your friend call herself god-owner now?

I have no idea what she calls herself actually (I never bothered to find out).
