"Another Republican, Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, said that the UK and Canada 'don't have the appreciation of life as we do in our society, evidently'."

Stupid Republicans? Not really.

Being economical with the truth and passing off opinion as fact are hallmarks of the current Republican party; As far as they are concerned, anything offensive to the ideals of libertarian economics ("let the market decide healthcare!") and fiscal conservatism ("no govt spending! Less govt is better govt!") is a target for misinformation. Their mantra of "To hell with a system that is in dire need for repair - lets keep it the way it is!" applies not just to health care, but also to climate change and the teaching of evolution.

They're not stupid -- I would argue that calling them stupid is a compliment.

They are just evil.

The way I read the article, they are saying that having no government-run healthcare system shows greater appreciation of life because one has more choices this way. And if I'm not wrong, medical debt in the US is just astronomical. So yeah, they might have more choices, but this fellow forgets that access to them is limited. This selective amnesia is just wonderful!

According to this, their healthcare system that is greatly appreciative of life can't even beat Costa Rica's!
