The J-thing's Quote of the Day

Aug 14, 2009 21:42

"Another Republican, Congressman Paul Broun of Georgia, said that the UK and Canada 'don't have the appreciation of life as we do in our society, evidently'."
YEAH RIGHT.  The UK has abolished the death penalty since 1965, while the US is the only Western industrialised nation that still retains and actively uses capital punishment.  In 2008, the US was the fourth largest user of the death penalty, behind Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia.  SMLJ "appreciation of life"?The UK Department of Health took the unusual step of contacting The Associated Press and e-mailing it a three-page rebuttal to what it said were misconceptions about the NHS being bandied about in the US media-each one followed with the words: 'Not true.'

Then followed a fact sheet comparing selected statistics such as health spending per capita, infant mortality, life expectancy, and more. Each one showed England outperforming its trans-Atlantic counterpart.
Stupid Republicans.  If you're not happy with what your President is doing, keep it within your country; don't go around slamming other countries-especially if you're wrong.
