Help me create a cool museum! :)

I haven't finished the first draft of my novel yet (130,000 words and counting :P), but I'm already thinking about the rewrite and getting kind of excited about it.

There is a major subplot that is completely missing from this draft because I hadn't done enough research to know the first thing about how to write it, and frankly, I waffled on what ( Read more... )

Brilliant!!!! Those are all fantastic ideas. Thanks so much!

Oh man, if there were a reconstruction of that revolving room and they had a dancer doing Fred Astaire's part so you could see how it looked while they were filming it... I can't tell you how much I would love to see that. Then maybe I could stop trying to turn my head all the way upside down every time I watch that scene (which is often)...

Oh I love your ideas!

The classics must be preserved and what better way than with technology!

That is an excellent idea for a museum! I'd love to visit a museum like that!! How about a science fiction section? Star Wars, ET, Jurassic Park, Blade Runner, 2001... Oh, yeah, I'd love to visit that section!!

Oh, definitely! And Flash Gordon, Lost in Space, Star Trek. :D Some of the most popular objects from the American History museum are on display right now at the Air and Space museum (because NMAH is closed for renovation) and we went down there over Christmas break and saw R2D2 and C3PO. I think that was my son's favorite part of the museum. :) Although he was pretty impressed by the moon landing exhibit too -- there was an engineering model of a seismic something-or-other that none of us understood what it was, but my dad built it so we were excited. Something my dad built is in the Smithsonian! :D

Okay, that was a little off-topic... ;)

And huge, massive congrats on the 130,000 words and counting! *applause* I'm still on...the first page! ;) Yep, I'm burning it up over here, that's for sure, lol! ;) ♥!

LOL! I wanna go too! Why isn't there a museum like that? Like an actual history museum, though, not like Universal Studios or something.

I'm still on...the first page! ;)

Awwwwwwwww. Hugs!! I'm still watching your thread on GeekSquee, waiting for the cheese. ;)

Good luck with the novel, I love the sub plot idea about the fantasy entertainment museum.

What about a holodeck that was programmed with TV series? A person could interact with the characters from their favorite show.

Oh, oh, oh!!!!! You're like an answer to a prayer! :) :) One of the huge question marks in my first draft is what exactly goes into setting up an exhibit. Um, such a huge question mark, in fact, that I'm not even sure what to ask. :P

Basically, the creation of this exhibit is a subplot that runs through the entire novel, because one of the elements of the exhibit becomes very important at the end. So one question would be time frame... I'm guessing that with deciding what the theme of an exhibit is going to be, finding out what items are available for display, requesting loans, shipping, etc, it would take a while. Would six months be reasonable?

Do you think you could give me a brief overview of what kind of process you'd follow to set up an exhibit (including how loans work)? I don't want to take up too much of your time, but maybe if I've got the general idea I could ask you more specific questions later as they come up.

Thank you so much for commenting! This is very exciting. :)

Thank you soooo much. Like I said, I don't want to take up a lot of your time, so please don't feel obligated if it's going to be too much work. But I'll be very grateful for whatever you're able to do. :)
