Decisions, decisions...

Lack of the Sci-Fi Channel is starting to affect my quality of life. ;P

Not only have I been trying to figure out how I can watch Battlestar Galactica S4 next year (not to mention Razor in November!) what with the NBC/iTunes debacle, now I'm getting into Doctor Who, and no doubt I will soon be desperate to see the latest episodes of that too.  And ( Read more... )

Yeah, that's my inclination too. I can't bring myself to pay twice for the same episode (so I won't be buying the BSG S3 DVDs because I downloaded the episodes), and paying for them without even being able to keep them (or only on videotape :P) would be hard to swallow.

On the other hand, there's the whole waiting-six-months-for-DVDs-while-trying-to-avoid-spoilers thing. :-/

I don't read message boards and I could un-watch battlestar_blog, but lots of people on my flist watch it, and then there are the icon comms and challenges.

And this is the final season, so it's going to be big. Imagine if you'd tried to wait until the Lost S3 DVDs came out before you watched any of it. ;)

Just stay away from TwoP!

No kidding!!!! :P

That's awful that you'd have to pay that much more to upgrade into the service that would have the Sci-Fi channel! O_O It's part of our basic package here! You poor thing! *pouts on your behalf*

I hope you'll be able to figure out a way to work it all out! *hugs!* ♥♥♥!!!

Is it really? That's nice! We can't pick up any channels without cable here, so we have the basic basic package which is the networks plus the local public access channels. So essentially, we have to pay $20 a month to have the "free" channels! :P

I'm really hoping that NBC and iTunes kiss and make up because I gots to have my BSG. C'mon, big dumb corporations! This way, everyone wins! >:C

I know! They can't really do this, can they? It's ridiculous. I hope it's all posturing and they're actually going to work it out in the end.

But I also hope iTunes stands their ground because I can't pay $5 per episode, I just can't. :(

I've been reading around the blogosphere, and wise heads are saying that the companies will settle. NBC will get their money, and iTunes will get their product. It's mutually beneficial, as I said, and what else are they going to do?

Dear NBC: Maybe you haven't noticed, but you're in last place among the major networks. Cutting off what few fans you have from your most popular shows (including those on other networks) is called DUMB with a capital DUH!

I won't pay that much for an episode, either. I'd go illegal-downloads before I do that. Idiot network weasels.

Urgh. Is there really any point in iTunes carrying them if they cost that much? Would anybody pay that? I mean, maybe there would be a few BSG fans desperate enough (since not all cable companies even carry the SciFi channel), but for shows like Heroes that are free on network TV... I can't imagine why anyone would pay that much.

I suspect there will be vast numbers of people looking into illegal downloads who wouldn't have even considered it before.

How would you feel about downloading episodes, erm, less than legally and then buying them when they come out on DVD to assuage your guilt?

What about having a friend with SciFi tape them (well, okay, burn it to DVD these days, I suppose) and loan it to you? If that seems all right to you, is there any reason to look at that differently than downloading it illegally?

Not that you necessarily wanted to start a debate about illegal downloads, but just some thoughts. :)

I've already asked around among my friends trying to find someone with the SciFi channel who could tape them for me, and nobody gets it! :P (This is my punishment for being all shy and not getting to know very many people. It probably also doesn't help that what few friends I do have are people who spend their time engaged in worthwhile activities instead of watching TV.)

It's a interesting question -- would that be different than illegal downloads? Is it legal to tape a show and loan the tape to somebody? They're still getting it for free (and not watching the commercials). Hmm.

I just might consider illegal downloads if I swore to myself that I would buy the DVDs later. ;) Like I said in a previous comment, I can't bring myself to buy the same episodes twice -- if I download it legally then I won't be buying the DVDs. So if I were to download it illegally to watch it once, just to have seen it and not have to worry about being spoiled, and then I bought the DVDs later, they wouldn't be losing any money on me.

Hmm, hmm.

Downloading from Bittorrent or wherever really seems like the new millennium version of getting videotapes from a friend. It just gives you access to more "friends".

I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about whether the companies and individuals behind shows like BSG are losing my money. They do quite well for themselves, even if many of their customers watch the show without paying. On the other hand, the majority of authors find it a lot harder to make ends meet, and yet our society has a system of institutions legally allowing people to read books without paying any money to borrow them.

I actually haven't seen any of the Highlander movies until the end aside from the original Highlander. I've seen parts of those movies, though, catching a bit here and there, seeing trailers and clips and... whoa... they're BAD! I'm sure The Source will be equally so. I've seen the comments on it. Ouch.

I miss the show, though. And Methos. I'll always miss Methos. *sigh*

I found another trailer for The Source today. A lengthy one, must have been at least five minutes. And OMG!!!!! The horror!!! I wanted to wash my brain out with soap afterward.

Why do they do this?! Why? They had a perfectly good TV show, you'd think they could make a half decent movie. I've never seen any of the Highlander movies and apparently this is not the the time to start. :(

Maybe I'll just watch a couple of Methos episodes from S5 tonight instead. That would be much more worthwhile.
