I just did a re-read of one of my all-time favorite series, the Queen's Thief set, by Megan Whalen Turner. Brief plug for the books: the first is The Thief, which won the Newbery Honor, the second is The Queen of Attolia which breaks your heart in a dozen wonderful ways, and third is The King of Attolia, which is the best so far, in my opinion.
