Pimping and some thinky thoughts

I went to a quilting workshop this morning on healing quilts.  There are different ways to look at healing quilts.  Some quilts are healing in the sense that we give them (or make them) with the intent that they will comfort others.  Some are made to raise awareness and funds for a disease.  Some are made to distract or inspire in a clinical ( Read more... )

OMG. You are amazing. I don't know how you do what you do and you keep doing it. YOU ARE AMAZING and not just for what you do. It's who you are too. ♥

I need to think a bit more about "support" before I can answer properly but one thing that sprang to mind immediately when I read your question of what support can be was "talking". I need people to talk to for support. And I'm willing to listen and give my input as well. Of course there's LJ but I mean in RL. And "talking" leads automatically to friends and family in my case. I have a very tight knitted group of friends and family and never was in doubt once that they have my back and support me. But I'm someone who needs to talk things through to come to terms with them - for myself and for others. So...

But what I actually wanted to say is: I love that you always link to all these cool projects - podfic related and otherwise (like the Happy October Swap). I often see them first in your journal. Thanks for that:)

Interesting that you bring up the question about healing/support and art right now because in the last couple of weeks I worked on a mix of favourite songs which are my personal home remedy - no matter what's bothering me ( ... )

Uh, daily is not going to happen. I plan to be in NYC for four days in November, but they are flexible and the minimum is only 10 minutes a day, so that's what I'm aiming for! Still a hell of a lot of time on podding though (for someone who has spent only an hour, it looks rather daunting).

Aw, that is awesome. I have never made a quilt for charity (this little one I'm doing is the first one). I had heard of Project Linus, but didn't realize who the recipients were. Thanks for sharing! It's awesome that he still uses that quilt.

Our church includes a Prayer Shawl Ministry group, who led one of the summer services this year, talking about why they make the shawls and then having a few recipients talk about what receiving them meant and how they brought comfort and warmth to them in a time of need. It's not how I express my spirituality, but it made a lot of sense to me as a practice. I've learned to knit three or four times and it never sticks, but someday ( ... )

I totally get that fiber arts are not a creative outlet of self expression for everyone.

It seems to me that you are a very giving person and I wonder if people respond to that by wanting to support you because you add so much to their lives.

Aww, thanks! I'm glad to know it seems that way--it's not that I struggle with it, exactly, just that I feel so lucky that I really need to find outlets for paying that forward.

I was thinking that just having someone believe in me has been incredible support.
