Pimping and some thinky thoughts

Oct 23, 2012 18:17

I went to a quilting workshop this morning on healing quilts.  There are different ways to look at healing quilts.  Some quilts are healing in the sense that we give them (or make them) with the intent that they will comfort others.  Some are made to raise awareness and funds for a disease.  Some are made to distract or inspire in a clinical setting.  And others are made because the creator is on a spiritual journey of healing.

The quilt I started today was made for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  I feel so inspired!  I am not sure exactly why, but the approach was just so sensible and not nitpicky and fun! Also check out these Healing Quilts in Medicine, especially the ones inspired by photos from the science world.

Anyhow, the woman who taught the workshop, Lisa Ellis, was talking about healing and I had some thoughts about support while she was talking.  My questions are related and they go like so:

What can we do to support each other?  What does support look like (to you)? If you could ask for support, what you would ask for?

I felt like this was such a breakthrough in my thinking.  I don't even know the answers to these questions right now, but feel they are instrumental for growth.  Also, watch this video about Daniel Cui, a soccer goalie who really got support. It's three minutes long.

Finally, remopodmo is up and running in November. I've signed up. Let the fingernail biting commence :D
