Today I failed

Today I played with Pebeo Setacolor soleil dye.  It was fun!  The results were not what I was expecting, but I'll let you be the judge about how ugly they are.  I definitely learned some things :D  Also in that album are some pictures of the nine patch baby quilts I'm working on.

I'm really looking forward to the finished dragon. The beading will give it the final touches.

Can I hate you a little bit for the fact that you not only have another room for your sewing stuff but also more space AND a better sewing mashine. *pouts*

Love yur irish chain baby quilts! I wanted to do an irish chain quilt as well - maybe a double irish chain for a good friend for christmas. Will see if I have enough time left. Because I'm still working on two quilts for my parents from *cough* last year *cough*. Oh my... I'm hopeless.

First things first... the baby book. Then we'll see.

I think I asked that already but I can't remember your answer. How do you heft your sandwich? Needles, spray or the conservative way with thread?

Well, that was the plan, to do the final touches with the beading:) Glad you are enjoying it!

Sure. Keep in mind that I am older than you and that has some advantages too.

If you do your own nine patches, the rotary cutter and chain piecing is your friend. It took me a lot less time than I had expected to make over a hundred nine patches. I mean, it's still time :D

Yes, one project at a time! Well, if you can do handwork separately, then it's ok to do piecework. That's how I work things, although it's not always a great solution. I'm going to try to be better about it this year.

Heft? Heft means to lift. You mean make. Or a better word that is not coming to me. On baby quilts, I use nothing. The layers stick together well enough. For big quilts, I use pins. I've got some spray, have used it a little, but am not the biggest fan because it can be very hard to get the layers right without any wrinkles.

I see... I guess I have to set my plan in action to find me a incredibly looking millionaire who can support all my creative dreams:P

Interesting! When I don't fixate the different layers they move too much under the sewing machine. That's why I have to fixate them somehow. I tried different methods but all of them more or less suck. I still have wrinkles here and there. Or maybe I'm just plain bad in fixating. And crawl around on my knees for the fixating I hate, too.

LOL. Yeah, my parents have helped with some purchases, but not everything.

Are you quilting from the middle out? It makes a big difference. I can still get wrinkles on the bigger quilts, but it's usually fine with small quilts. Are you using 100% cotton batting? I find it kind of "sticky".

I really love the bead work, jela! It just brings everything to life. I'm excited to see the completed piece!

Also, "Night Promises"? Lovely bit of PWP (although I don't believe there's actually any such thing as no plot)! I really like the easy, established intimacy between the two, which is comfortable and yet still very sexy. That's what a healthy, loving relationship should be, right?

Also congrats to you for getting most of your to dos done!

Thanks so much! I'm glad the bead work is working for you and that you liked my little PWP. I was just thinking that I tend to write M/A as established. I'm glad that worked for you too.

Yes! I love my sewing room:D Thanks. The dragon will be cute, rather than fierce, can't be helped.

*sigh* I think part of the problem with the shirts is that I should have thinned the dye more. I had things that were firmly on the fabric. I don't know if it's because I used the translucent dye that the effect is not very strong. I definitely want to play with it more though!

OMG a dragon quilt. I love its wee little feet! The beading is so pretty, too. Is that hard to do? I know very little about sewing, and it looks so small and detailed.

Thanks! I am quite in love with my dragon too:)

Er, I don't really know how to answer the question, "is it hard". I use small beads and small stitches. I wouldn't say it's skilled labor, but I think there is a knack to it. Not sure if you can tell in this picture, but I didn't quite have the rhythm down when I started the spiral.

This is my fourth project I've beaded. I've done extensive beading on one other project.

I've never taken a class in beading. I've read some excellent books about it though.

Oh, you still interested in encouraging established relationship fics? I was just thinking about it yesterday :D

I LOVE, love, the blue quilt! Is it for a particular baby?

Aw, thanks:D It's for a six year old, actually:D For the record, that quilt is not just blue. It's got purple, green, and blacks in it too, I believe. The quilts are for sisters. The smaller one with red and green is for the baby.
