Absolutely. Here I am, ten years later, still friends with some of those people, even if one or both of us have wandered away from the fandom that brought us together in the first place. I have been incredibly thankful for the friends I've made on the Internet.
Yeah, totally. The connections are strong, even if the fandom interest wanes.
It was actually a little strange for me at first, since I knew both you and B first, and then found you on the Internet, but I'm used to that now. I haven't heard from B in months, though - have you?
It was strange for you to be friends with me on LJ at first?
Nope. Not a word. Not unusual for us though.
(I screened your comment because you used B's full name, which I shy away from. LOL. I might do lots of public posts, but I really don't like to use real names:))
Oh, sorry! I didn't think he minded, but perhaps I was presumptuous.
And, no - I meant it was strange to have someone I knew in "RL" - since I knew you from waaay back - suddenly become part of my Internet life. Normally those things stay pretty separate, you know? And I felt the same initial strangeness when you helped me and B connect on LJ, as well, perhaps even more so since he was my ex.
If I recall, the whole thing did feel kind of weird at the time, but I've interacted with you here for much longer than we did in college, so it just feels normal now.
I also came into LJ through people I knew from real life. I knew about fandom, but not from anyone, really. I knew about slash from a class in college and that was it.
I think my path to fandom and use of LJ is backwards to a lot of people.
As an anon by choice, can I just say how glad I am that you don't lock your LJ? I may not often get the chance to comment or reply to your posts, but I read them all when I am able, and respond if/when I have the chance
( ... )
Actually, connecting with you has been a main motivator for me to post stuff unlocked.
I've no actual immersed experience with fandom other than Merlin either.
LOL. I'm not private or shy by nature, but the excitement I've felt from Merlin and Colin Morgan is relatively new, at least as an adult. I am loving the experience, and a big part of that has been people like you. I met lewisian_gneiss the same way. I have big ♥ eyes for her too:)
