I'm impressed you can get anything done on a computer (much less anything fic-related) with children underfoot. Mine always want too much of my attention for me to focus on anything more than brief emails or LJ comments, and most of the time I don't get online at all until they've gone to bed.

Well, they are on the other computers and I'm on the laptop in this case. Other times I boot them off the computer and they play with each other and make a big mess.

I think I told her about Girl Genius, but couldn't really recommend it.

I feel like I just don't know of many books in the steampunk genre; especially ones that are suitable for kids.
