Lost in thought

I was at a family camp with lots of singing and dancing last week and while certain creature comforts were missing, I was happier there than I've been in a long time.  Despite lack of sleep, I felt more awake than I do at home.  And I didn't get headaches either ( Read more... )

I've wondered, once both of your kids are in full-time school, are you thinking of looking for work (paid or volunteer) outside the home?

Glad you had a good time at your camp?

I don't think I'll be looking for full time anything outside the home once the kids are in school full time. I might look for something part time, but I'm really not sure what I would do. Everything I'm vaguely qualified to do would probably bore or annoy me at this point.

I've been having a lot of fun with art projects this summer and might continue doing that with my adult friends once a month when school starts. I have to think about that. I've been doing tea salons, but suspended them over the summer. My tea salons might morph into art salons:)

The good news is I have lots of time to figure this stuff out.

One big noticeable difference is that I wasn't in charge of food at all.

I can totally grok this. I was just in a situation where I wasn't in charge of the food at all for about a week and it was *fabulous*. I'm a pretty good cook for the occasional meal, but really, who thought it was a good idea for me to be in charge of an entire family's daily meals? Dinnertime comes as a complete surprise to me *every single day*!

I would say that I'm a good cook and I even know when I'm supposed to cook dinner, but I just tired of the grind. I cook virtually everything from scratch and we almost never eat out. Like, we pay to eat out less than once a year (except on trips). If parents are visiting, they will usually take us out once, but with the kids, I find it a hassle.

Anyhow, it is a treat not to have to worry about food, especially when you have two little kids constantly saying they're hungry!

I definitely enjoyed having a vacation (in CA) where I didn't have to think about food. I sometimes helped cook on my mother's behalf, but she did the planning. I still had to think about food for myself, but that was fairly straightforward, and not a big stress.

Glad you had a good time and were able to genuinely relax. I suspect having a break from child-entertaining was a big part of that. When does school start?

School starts the day after Labor Day, so another two weeks. I'm glad for the time between our trip and school starting though. And DD2 just came down with something suddenly. She was complaining that something hurt, but she couldn't localize it and then she fell asleep:( She doesn't seem to have a fever. I have no idea what's going on. I hope she feels better when she wakes up.
