This has this haunting quality that a lot of the best sections of the actual books did.

And the finale of the last book is significantly different in feel, taking this into account. It makes the hat more of its own character, which the books do a tolerable job of already in some ways.

Just in general, that was my reaction -- wow, this fits perfectly.
