Summary: Castiel has a new favorite song, and Dean hates it.
The first time it happens, Sam’s driving and Dean’s passed out in the back seat of the Impala, snoring. Sam, the master of class and poise (yeah, right), shoots Cas a weird look but doesn’t say anything.
The second time, they’ve been researching lore at Bobby’s for hours and have come up with nothing. They all agree to take a ten minute break and Dean heads straight for the fridge to grab a beer. Sam starts to follow him, and as he makes to exit the library, he hears the faintest humming coming from Cas’s direction.
The third time (though Dean doesn’t know it is), they’re back at Bobby’s and Dean’s in the garage, tuning up the Impala. Led Zepplin’s blaring through the speakers and he doesn’t hear the slight flutter of wings as Cas pops in from who-the-fuck-knows-where. Suddenly, the station changes and Dean rolls out from under the Impala and glares at Cas with his you’re-fucking-with-my-music-I’m-going-to-rip-that-pretty-halo-off-your-head glare.
“Dude, what the hell?”
“Hello, Dean.”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Cas thinks about it seriously for a moment. “I was…listening to music.”
Dean makes a face and says very matter-of-factly, “That’s not music, Cas.”
Cas is gone before Dean can add anything else, and the hunter rolls his eyes. “Yeah, goodbye to you too.”

The first time Sam notices it doesn’t happen, Dean’s driving and Cas is in the passenger seat and there is a whole lot of awkward going on. It’s dead silent in the car as Dean glares at the road and Cas glares at Dean. Sam's sitting in the backseat worriedly, his eyes constantly going back and forth between the two of them, hoping Dean will at least pull over before Cas smites him. After ten more minutes of radio silence, he finally just can’t take it anymore because there’s 200 more miles before Milwaukee and if someone doesn’t talk soon he’s going to go insane.
“You guys okay?” he asks hesitantly, not sure who’s wrath he’s more afraid of provoking.
Dean grunts out a harsh “we’re fine” just as Cas replies with a hard “no.”
They glare at each other and Sam almost slips and reminds Dean to watch the road.
“We’re fine,” Dean tries again.
“Dean won’t let me listen to the radio,” Cas addresses Sam, his eyes still burning holes into Dean.
“That’s not true!”
Cas’s eyes, if possible, narrow even further. “Every single time I turn it on, you turn it off again almost immediately. Now, I may not be well-versed in all human customs, but I have deduced that that is your reasoning.”
“It’s not that you’re listening to the radio, Cas, it’s what you’re listening to!”
“I happen to enjoy that song, Dean.”
And then it clicks and Sam groans, dropping his head into his hands. “Oh, come on…that is what this is about?”
Dean grumbles. “He’s driving me nuts with that stupid Celine Dion shit.”
“It is not ‘shit’ as you say.” Cas may be pouting now, just a little, or Sam’s eyes may be playing tricks on him. At this point, he’s not quite sure.
“Why the hell do you even like it? It’s melodramatic as fuck.”
Which surprisingly, Sam agrees with, but Cas hesitates for just a second, and the younger Winchester gets the feeling there’s more going on.
Finally, Cas speaks. “I enjoy that song, Dean, because whenever I listen to it, I am reminded of you.”
If Sam thought it had been awkward earlier, he was sadly mistaken. Dean freezes, his next witty one-liner dying on his lips as he turns beet red and maybe sinks into his seat a little. Cas is still staring at him, though a little softer now and Sam’s pretty sure he just witnessed Cas telling Dean he loves him.
Can his life possibly get any weirder?
Apparently, yes, yes it can.
Because slowly, Dean’s hand drifts over to the dash and flicks on the radio and sure enough, the slow melodramatic strains of “My Heart Will Go On” float through the speakers. And though they don’t say anything, Sam’s pretty sure Dean just told Cas he loves him too.
