Newspaper giggles

I have a new internet crush. I don't know how many of you have heard about the gay African-American who had multiple email conversations with a racist homophobic army recruiter, but I am in LURVE with the former. Smart, articulate, and funny as hell, Corey Powell owns the entire internet. The only link I've found to their complete correspondence ( Read more... )

I'd like to point out that "Adios" is spelled wrong.

My main question is How did this not make otf_wank?

Yes. *giggle* That army sergeant has got to be one of the stupidest women to ever breathe. I grew up in a military family, so I'm VERY glad to say that she's the exception that proves the rule, which makes her even funnier to me.

A lot of things are misspelled! *laughing*

And that's an excellent question. When I couldn't google a link to all the emails, I went to otf_wank and was very disappointed that it wasn't up. And the thing is, there is a LOT of splooge here! Google revealed half a dozen neo-con articles lambasting my new internet boyfriend for baiting the recruiter and even trying to set her up. Since this is basically saying that all military personnel are dumb and have no control over their keyboards whenever somebody exercises sarcasm on them, I reject this argument categorically. I haven't checked out the neo-con blogs about this incident because I suspect it would raise my blood pressure to impressive levels, but the otf_wank folks normally eat this sort of stuff for breakfast.

You know, the military has reduced minimum qualifications in intelligence, morals, etc. I think this woman got in on the lowered standards of recent recruitment drives.

I also think it sad the army can't afford to get her a new keyboard; her caps lock is stuck. ; p

OTOH, it's a little painful to watch a battle of wits against an unarmed opponant.

My father served in the Coast Guard for 33 years so I grew up in the military, and I NEVER met a person like this who was promoted past E-3. That she could make it all the way to sergeant sickens me a bit.

Especially when she's facing the mental equivalent of Inigo Montoya. The sharpest wit in all the land!

It's people like her that make me glad I got out while I did. I don't know anyone who I went to basic with or served with who was ever that ridiculous.

It wasn't that long ago that it was really incredibly difficult to get into the military. I had a friend with a bad knee who spent a year in rehab just to get into the army because they wouldn't take her without that. It was a buyer's market and they only took the very, very, VERY best. When you heard someone was a vet, you knew that person was intelligent, disciplined, and a true asset to any community.

Since Bush started this war, however, the standards have slipped to an astounding degree. Now military personnel are automatically equated with Abu Graib bullies... which is as far from my experience with military people as it's possible to get. The damage done by accepting anybody who applies is going to take a LONG time to undo.
