My thoughts EXACTLY after watching Day One, especially these points:
- And for once I actually buy Jack and Ianto as a couple (using the word myself). -He actually deals with the Ianto sexuality question that no other TW writer has bothered with, and does so in the above way -It's meant to be scary and is (which means it isn't written by Moffat)
his is like crack to me and everything I ever wanted Torchwood to be
EXACTLY! Rusty fulfilled the potential that TW always had.
I've long *liked* Jack/Ianto as a couple but there were some serious storytelling gaps in the execution. Of course we still haven't addressed how Ianto went from wanting to kill Jack in Cyberwoman to sexing him by TKKS but at least where they are now is getting some attention. Oh if only Rusty had been able to give this show as much attention as he did DW (not that I'd trade Rusty DW for anything) it could have been so much better.
RUPESH!!!!!! I was so sad he died. I was really hoping he'd stick around and turn out to be all badass for the rest of the series.
Eve Myles blew me away in this whole series. Her facial expressions are so key. That scene with Jack and the baby? "That's just bloody spectacular!" I think it's one of my fave Gwen moments EVER.
And yes. Scary, epic, fun and awesome! I LOVED Day One so much. And cause it's been a while since I watched it, let me fangirl THAT MOTHEREFFING KISS!!!! *dies* So. Much. Love.
Rupesh could have been an awesome character even after the betrayal happened, so yeah sad that he died.
To be fair I only even started consistently liking Gwen in the middle of season 2, but I did love how the pregnancy reveal played out and think Eve Myles played it perfectly.
Oh yeah, that kiss was pretty great, as was the episode over all.
I haven't always liked Gwen but I've always related to her (which I think is the intent behind her character). However, she really steps it up in this series. I have a feeling you will continue to like her (maybe even love her *g*) as CoE goes on.
Gwen is a lot like Martha to me, I *should* love her and really relate to her, but I don't, and that makes me kind of bitter and so what started as more disinterest turns until some hefty dislike. But somewhere in season 2 I guess it felt like the writers stopped trying so hard and then I actually started liking her. I still don't love her, but I feel free to like her finally.
