Falling Over In Agony

Jan 11, 2010 12:18

Despite my long held distrust of self medication, I decided to give Lactaid a try. My cereal in the morning just doesn't taste as good with soy milk, and is occasionally too sweet due to the added flavoring in the soy milk ( Read more... )

More importantly, why would I assume there is more than one type? That's interesting. I compared the ingredients of the three brands I saw on the shelf and all were just "Lactase enzyme". Shows how little variety I have available to me out here. :(

A little more evaluation and discussion with thenik leads me to believe that the pill itself is causing my agony. How's that for a kick in the gut?

Maybe that is an indication that you are not actually lactose intolerant? Have you been diagnosed as such? Dairy could disagree with you for a reason other than the lactose....?

Yeah, why didn't you talk to a doctor first? F thought he might be lactose intolerant, went to his doctor and learned he was something else (having nothing to do with milk).

Whatever you do, do not try goatmilk instead :)

The different brands of soymilk do taste different, so try a few different ones maybe? The Trader Joes soymilk isn't half bad, I used to enjoy the Vitasoy Plain pretty decently too.

Personally, I prefer the chocolate soymilk in my cheerios or rice crispies hehehe.

We've been using Trader Joe's recently, and I really like it. My problem is when I have the "sweeter than normal" cereals. The sweetened soy milk and sweetened cereal is just a bit much for me in the morning.

I will DEFINITELY have to try the chocolate one in the Rice Krispies.

Have you thought about staying away from the "sweeter than normal" cereals? :)

Ha! That was the first thing I said! Of course, otherwise he's quite good about eating. "Sweeter than normal" still isn't *those* cereals. There isn't even high fructose corn syrup in them. And it's only a few mornings a week. ;) Poor guy.
