Star Trekkin' across the Universe

C'mooooooon. Who doesn't like Star Trek, in its many variations, just a little, or a lot?!

Well, with my geek-wood well and truly raging I thought I'd finally post a few thoughts on the latest MMO - Star Trek Online. I missed the beta of STO at the end of last year (which was a little annoying because I'd paid for a beta key) so had to wait until ( Read more... )

In truth it is a lot of fun. We don't play it as much as most and don't do all those horde/raid thingies. We mainly log on for an hour, do a couple of missions then log off. Admittedly there have been a couple of afternoons free where we've practically eaten lunch without leaving but that's rare lol.

Well if you ever thought about having a go, I have a couple of free trials sitting spare.

Live long and prosper! Lol
*dear god I'm getting worse...*

Very true. When I first met him all his starship models were displayed in the living room for all to see. Over the years I've been able to move them slowly into an office which now looks kinda shrine-ish. Ships, bobble heads, figurines, posters, signed photos, you name it. At least it makes buying Christmas and B'day presents pretty easy :)

You play STO and you didn't name your cats Riker and Deanna?? Gad, you're such a Ferengi!

LOL, well we got the kids long before we got STO. But yes, a number of Star Trek-related names were submitted (by JR) and all were vetoed (by me). Riker and Deanna were pretty high on the list - but seeing as our cats are siblings...we didn't want to confuse them.

So why we ended up calling them Samson and Delilah I have no idea!

You do build up a fleet of ships as you progress through the ranks but you captain just one at a time. I think if you could captain a fleet it would get VERY hectic. Plus in the big battles you're automatically teamed with other players (saves all that hunting around, looking desperate for teammates for the bigger missions) so you're often working as part of a much larger group ( ... )

:O the thoughts, the images, I feel faint! LOL

Actually - there ARE rumours that Cryptic are developing Star Trek Online (and Champions Online for that matter) for the console this year - making it/them cross-platform titles all playing on the same server. It's certainly something they've been talking about since before launch.
So I may yet get to play with you!
Make it so No.1!
