Dawn, Armageddon or something less

Well for those of you in Sydney, you'll have experienced today first hand. For the first time since the 1930s (apparently or according to the news reports), Sydney experienced it's first major dust-storm early this morning. We awoke at about 6am to the blinds knocking wildly against the window frames in the bedroom so JR got up to close the ( Read more... )

Definitely a memorable experience but I'd rather see our famous red dust (which incidentally is actually rust from the enormous iron deposits in our mountain ranges) stay where it belongs...in the Outback!

As much as I would have LOVED to have been in Sydney to see this awe-inspiring flight, I'm pretty pleased that I flew down here to Melbourne yesterday!

And I bet JR was ECSTATIC at having a rostered day off - it would have been a nightmare working at the airport today!!! *yikes*

Believe me, I'm more than thankful that he wasn't working yesterday! According to his colleagues, the airport was "disgusting". In fact, flying to Canberra today, Qantas informed us that our 9am flight was the first flight to go on time after the storm. JR deserves better than what he would have gone through yesterday if he'd been working.

I have been hearing about your dust storm, but these photos are pretty awesome, in a sickening "My GOD!" kind of way. We get the odd dust storm in Dallas, but here it is more brown/yellow in color. The last one made me pretty sick as god only knows what was mixed in with the dust...

Yeah, it was really full on. Air pollution was reportedly 700 times higher than normal for Sydney...which we only found out afterwards! It's the worst storm of this kind in over 70yrs and as amazing as it was to witness, not one I'd like to see again.
