I completely disagree. I think that a lot of what made the book so wonderful for me was taken out. The focus of the book is not the action and suspense, it's Edward and Bella. It's more a character study than a thriller, and I feel like the movie switched that around.
I agree, it felt cut and paste to me in certain spots, but still wonderful for the tingles! You no like sparkle!? I guess everyone pictured it differently. I didn't even think about rainbows and such, just the sparkling itself.
Charlie was hilarious! When he asked Bella if she still had the pepper spray someone behind me said, "It doesn't help!" LMAO!
The baseball scene was indeed made of awesome.
I loved Nikkie Reed's Rosalie! She did a great job with the bitchy!
I did miss hearing the background on Carlisle, but I liked how they added the scenes of "Edward" dying and Carlisle turning him.
I also agree about Victoria. It was dramatic and she did a good job giving off that "vengeance is mine!" vibe, but for cannon-book-facts, it was wrong that Edward didn't sense or smell her while she was so close.
All in all, good first movie, I expect New Moon to be better now that this one has proven itself. ~huggles her only Twilight sister~ I love you Jazzy!!!

Indeed? That's interesting. I plan to catch the movie when it comes out on PPV or something. One thing I don't understand is why did Carlisle change Edward because he was sick and dying. Carlisle is a doctor and surely encounters death all of the time. And what about Edward's parents? Did Edward beg to live in the movie?
In the books, Edward's parents died from, um, yeah, the same disease he had, and his mother had just before dying begged Carlisle to save her son, saying something about knowing he had the power to do so. At this point Carlisle had been alone and lonely for a long time and so, yeah, at the 11th hour when it was clear that Edward would die, he turned him. The rest of their 'family' are also later turned by Carlisle at times when it's clear they would otherwise die.
Probably a bit vague, but my memory isn't THAT good. XD
Thanks. I'd always kind of wondered about that. Beside the fact he was was going to die otherwise, Carlisle had no reason to change Edward, I felt. it wasn't addressed any further in Twilight, which is the only book I've read.
The movie isn't out here yet and even if it were I can't really leave the baby just yet to go watch movies. I looked into getting it online (what? :P) but the quality seems to be too low to bother at this point.
I hear a lot of mixed reviews, though. It's interesting.
It looked...I'm not really sure how to put it into words... I always pictured it as being sort of a cross between the glittery shimmer that shows up in some types of marble where the light hits it just right, and the "sparkle" that diamonds or crystal give off where they don't actually sparkle but they throw light in such a way that it it creates little rainbows on everything around them.
Instead it looked like it was something on him that was sparkling. Okay, this reference might only make sense to an American in my age bracket, so if you don't get it, I apologize, but it reminded me of the ultra cheap body shimmer powder that tweens buy at mall accessory stores like Claire's and then dump all over themselves because they've only just reached the age where they can where makeup, they haven't learned to use a light touch yet, and the phrase "natural look" means nothing to them. Like I said, I just wanted to brush the sparkling stuff off of him.
Naw, it's all right, I think I get it, thank you ^__^
That was one of the things I had difficulties imagining as I read the book and, I have to add, I found it a bit ridiculous. I admit that something suitably showy was needed for the second volume to make sense, but sparkling skin ... well ...
