Back to School

Way back on Saturday, I went on a little shopping spree. I got a lot stuff because there were sales at two stores I frequent at the mall. At one point I needed to pick something up that I had dropped so I held a huge bag of bought stuff and stuff that I wanted try on in my left arm. Let's just say that my arm still aches today. *looks for some Icy- ( Read more... )

OMG! I'll so take that class with you! I wouldn't need to any books. Amazing!

We'd so be the rockstars of that class. FTW!

Arabic is a gorgeous language - I wish I hadn't let myself get behind last semester, or I'd be taking 102 right now.

Just make sure you can roll your r's, haha. I managed to fake it in Spanish, but the way most Arabic words are, you really have to be able to do it.

I very much agree! I hope to maybe take another level of it if I can fit it in next year or the year after.

My dad is actually Arabic (mom's Latina) so I am better than most people at mimicking foreign sounds, not just in Arabic, Spanish, And French, but in a few other languages (doesn't mean I am fluent, just that I can mimic the sounds). However, my dad was so worried about us being able to keep up in school that he only taught us English (my mom still doesn't speak it well, so it was kind of all up to him), so I know virtually no Arabic as the actual language.

Yeah, my mom never taught me Spanish - there's a huge Mexican branch of my family, and I feel like a dork at reunions when I can only understand a fraction of conversations.

It's like, come on, Mom, why didn't you teach me this when I was 6 or something and my brain picked up languages no problem?

DUDE. They have a Tolkien class at my school too... and it's taught by my favorite lit professor ever. He's a sci-fi/fantasy literature expert, which is totally an insanely awesome dream job. There's only 100 spots in the class AND NO PREREQS so it fills up pretty quickly. *sigh*

Yeah, here the class is for English majors. I don't know how many spots there are, but they sure had a lot in stock. I would love to take it, but it here it has to many prereqs, isn't a GE, and is completely the wrong major.

Hi!

I'll actually be going to that class in less than hour as of commenting right now. I am really excited, the book is really cool, there are old movies and new ones (some of favorites) that are talked about.

My friend who took the course freshman year say we basically watch a movie every week (1 day, 3 hour class) and then write a paper on it.

I want that English class too. I know once class here was requiring the last Harry Potter book, which doesn't make sense for people who haven't read all the others but still!! And by the time you do get to take it there will probably be boring books that you have never heard of. So not fair!

Required just the last HP book? That really doesn't make sense at all. Sometimes the people who think up of the course curriculums are slightly insane, I think.

They had tons of other books and the last Harry Potter book was included. It still didn't make much sense to me either. Unless this teacher has required all of them every class but what if you haven't had one of his or her classes.
