Welcome Back to the Nineties

This John Mackey guy seems pretty smart. He's the CEO of Whole Foods, and he wrote a response to Obama a few months ago criticizing his health care bill. Rather, he explained why his company's health care is better than what the government is planning, and had specific recommendations on how to improve it. This weekend, he had an interview with ( Read more... )

Speaking of Toy Story, have you seen the photos of the Jessie costume I made Laurel for Halloween when she was four? I think it's the best costume I've made her so far, but hopefully this year's Coraline costume will come close.

That was a pretty good read (though I didn't finish it). While I'm not about to stop eating meat (I don't care what you say, animals have all kinds of proteins and nutrients you can't get from plants), the guy's experience running a business has given him a good perspective on capitalism and government.

Not the first CEO to be fit and hiking the Appalachian trail, though (and did he even hike the whole thing? THAT would be impressive to me).

Whole Foods sells meat, you know... :) He advocates for more grains and fruits and vegatables, not no meat.

By the way, have you no Cinemark/Tinseltown? Best prices in terms of tickets, but the best and most comfortable seating. Not to mention absolutely awesome popcorn.

I can't stand any theater that isn't Cinemark anymore. My sister and I got to see Gamer for $5! Then again, not many folks are able to see a weekday matinee...but it WAS on Labor Day, to be fair.

We have a Hollywood and a Goodrich Quality Theater in Columbia and I've never heard of these other ones. We used to have a "dollar theater", but it went out of business a decade ago.

Apparently 90,000 people is only enough to feed two multiplexes.

It's funny, I've always liked Forum 8, and I usually opt for it over Hollywood, depending on showtimes. Part of it is brand loyalty (I used to work at Forum), but tickets and concessions are cheaper (or at least used to be), and I think it's more visually appealing. Also, I remember when the Forum 8 was the shiny new theater in town, so Hollywood makes me feel old. I just don't mind not having an usher on duty (and they do have one at peak times).

Concessions are indeed cheaper at Forum, and the serving sizes are accordingly TINY (some would say more reasonable). Sure, you get super-cheap refills, but seriously, who wants to get up from the movie, brave whatever line is out there, and wonder what you missed in the meantime.

Also, I might be weird in that I never go to theaters at peak times. Even when I worked 8-4:30, I'd rather go to the 5 o'clock show. That the prices are cheaper; so much the better.
