Check in and Oscars

I watched the Oscar nominations at work today.  I know that it's just an awards show but I still find it kind of exciting.  I've seen at least half of the films up for best picture and since there are ten of them, that's quite the accomplishment.  I am pretty lucky to have so many people willing to watch Dorian so that Gavin and I can go out and ( Read more... )

I loved Black Swan. I haven't seen The King's Speech yet, but I adore Colin Firth.

As for books--the public library is your best friend! ;) If you have the time, Cloud Atlas is one of my absolute favorite books. I also recommend Infinite Jest very highly, even though I'm less than 200 pages in right now.

You are one of three friends reading Infinite Jest right now. I've been tempted to look into it. I owe the library $10.20. Yes I have $10.20, but I don't feel like giving it to them. You'll also notice that my two books are very short because I can only read 5 or so pages a day. A longer book might be a summer goal. Right now I'm reading Emma.

Colin Firth is great in The King's Speech (I've been in love with him since Pride and Prejudice). It's great, but not as amazing as I thought it would be. I'm hoping to see The Kids are Alright and Blue Valentine before the Oscars.

Sometimes if it's under $10 you can still check out books. Yes, I am advocating throwing your local library a quarter. I've paid a lot of money over the past few years in library fines, but I think of it as giving to charity. ;)

5 to 15 pages at a time sounds about right for Infinite Jest; it's pretty dense. And the sections are short, so there's that. And honestly--I laughed (out loud!) 5 times in the first 25 pages. The Arizona sections especially appeal to me. I wonder if everyone's reading it right now because The Pale King is about to come out? And there was that road trip book last year, too....
