The hand story was wonderful; just fabulous. And the international aid one was funny and then serious, and while I mainly agree--certainly about the T-shirts--I have reservations. The do-no-harm principle is certainly a good one: aid that wrecks the local economy is not aid. But I think expecting aid to never have unintended negative consequences is unrealistic--I can think of very few human ventures that haven't had *some* unintended negative consequences--that's part of the fun of being human: sorting out the problems that your solution to the last problem caused. (semi-facetious there...)
