ETA: A working 802.11g bridge has been made available. This post is now academic, and is being left live for the networking prØn value. Thank you.I had two knowledgable and generous friends over yesterday helping me reconfigure my network to upgraded bandwidth from Comcast and an upgraded Cisco E4200 router to support the higher speeds ( Read more... )

I offer my experience with Cisco with little comment.

Immediately after purchasing a Linksys (Cisco brand, for anyone unaware)WRT54G, I was unable to get it to talk to my network. I'm pretty knowledgeable about hardware, and I killed a good two hours messing with the settings before giving up and calling tech support. Their solution? For the low low price of $9.95, they would remotely connect to my computer and set the modem up for me.

At which point I returned the piece of shit, made a vow to never touch another retail-level Cisco product again for as long as possible.

I'm currently peacefully coexisting with a Netgear WNR1000.

I'll ask my in-house router whisperer. Odds are that we might have an appropriate piece of router material here left over from our own Adventures in Routing. In any case, he's supposed to be studying this damned stuff--let's see if the cash I'm paying for his schooling is any good.

I think you should take your $60 to the humane society and adopt a kitten. That will quickly and easily solve all of your problems. 8P

The scariest thing is that when I had to replace my DSL modem the last time, I ended up having to mix a new and old Linksys (Cisco) wireless routers, much like you have including I believe a WRT54-G -- and finally just pushed the Cisco logo buttons on both and they configured themselves together automatically. When I added the HP wireless printer -- same thing.

What was annoying was not having to use any of my network-fu. (evil grin)
