Quite good. Though it suffers from being BOTH a espousal of liberal values and a rebuttal of el papa. Why is it that secularists are always trapped portraying themselves as the "younger monk" from the parable of the woman and the river? That's quite a leap to say that "free markets" and "Capitalism" can secure health, education, and low crime. You should watch the movie Smartest Guys in the Room. "Free markets" has led to some of the worst policy and abuse of Americans and economy in recent years, the effect of which has effectively undone sixty years of social programs that helped average Americans. Over 15% of Americans don't have health coverage in the world's best healthcare system today. And, markets in America have never been freer ( ... )

It's dirty but it's not a secret. Everyone knows that in an open system there will be cheaters. Prisoner's dilemma, hawks and doves...economists have scads of these scenarios. And you're right, complete laissez faire is a fool's idea since the cheaters will run amok. Enter the SEC, etc ( ... )

Good calling me on the richer/poorer argument; I was hoping you'd catch that (I guess there's no brain damage from your thugging incident then ;-) We are, however, in a phase where resources are seemingly finite and limited (i.e., the price of gasoline). So, relative average wealth is higher, but maybe not proportionately higher, except for the uber-rich, who are making more money than the Rockefellers (well, maybe still not that much ( ... )

Oh, here's something that you might find interesting: my grandmother, who is NOT an American citizen, gets SSI benefits. I'm not complaining, because guess who gets cash on his B-day!!
