GRRRR ARGGGGGGGH!

For some reason, our DSL decided to flip out last night. Shut everything down and had to reinstall some software this morning before it'd even let me online. WHICH IS ANNOYING, BECAUSE I WAS READY AND WILLING TO POST THE REAL CTHULHU LAST NIGHT! :P

Anyway, here's the first completed actual Cthulhu menstrual cup pouch. Not just a mockup. I also have a darker green I may use in the future, so people can have either light OR dark. (J, FTR, really likes the fluffy green I used in the mockup. XD)

Here's how it works: the cup is stored upside down (like you do when allowing it to air-dry) in Cthulhu's body, which adds stability to Cthulhu's head (which is completely enclosed and is lightly stuffed, like a plush doll) and allows him to stand fully upright. His little black wings are actually the drawstring that keeps the body pouch shut, which the head then comes down on top of when you're standing him upright. In the photos above, you can see these details, and in the last photo, I flipped his head back so you can see how thoroughly the pouch actually closes when you've drawn it tight with the drawstring. Completely enclosed and protected, and tying the drawstring shut in back allows you to more easily position the wings to enhance your Cthulhu's appearance.

The Cthulhu menstrual cup pouch you see above is made out of Peace Fleece's* Russian and American 30%mohair/70% wool blend, which is a delightful texture, doesn't pill or shed like mad (rather important when protecting your cups), and only becomes softer with each washing.

Cthulhu's wings are made from Mission Falls 1824 Wool, which is incredibly silky and soft and will feel really nice in your hands when you close and open your pouch.

Future plans include a darker, more menacing Cthulhu model (same pattern) using Peace Fleece's Hemlock. I'll take photos once I've got one to photograph. :)

I'm also amenable to fiber suggestions, if you're allergic to and/or otherwise object to the wool/mohair blend I'm currently using. Just leave a comment and tell me how to contact you and I'll be happy to discuss other options.

I'll make these as long as people are interested, and they'll be available in the Janniverse Etsy shop. :D Don't be alarmed if you go there and see that it's not in stock; just check back shortly, they'll be there soon. And if you want to poke me into action, leaving a comment here to let me know you're interested couldn't hurt, either. :D

[ETA: Several people have asked for a vegan option for Cthulhu as well, and I'm happy to oblige.  When it's available, I'll post that option here, in my Etsy store, and also an update on menstrual_cups  too! :D]

[ETA^2: 03/08/09: Version Dark now available! :D]

[ETA^3: 03/09/09: Version Dark Acrylic - VEGAN FRIENDLY! now available! :D]

[ETA^4: 03/11/09:  Version Light Acrylic - VEGAN FRIENDLY! now available! :D :D]

* = If you aren't familiar with Peace Fleece, they're a really interesting company, dedicating themselves to "helping historic enemies cooperate and prosper through trade." They don't just do knitting stuff; they do a wide variety of craft supplies from Russian, Romanian, American, Israeli, and Palestinian sources. If you're interested in this angle of it, check out their history. :D

cthulhu and you, chix with stix
