"So, Doctor, was this what you had planned when you suggested a nice trip to America?"

The Time Lord frowned as he eyed the large creature in front of them. "Not exactly, no."

"And how do you suggest we get out of here?" Rose asked quietly.

"No idea."

"Oh, of course."

"And what's that supposed to mean?" he snapped, turning slightly to glare at his companion.

Any reply that Rose might have uttered was cut off by the creature turning to regard them with its huge black eyes.

"Rose," the Doctor whispered.

"Yes, Doctor?"

"We may need to run. Are you ready?"

She threaded her fingers through his. "Always."

The creature took a few curious steps toward them before turning its attention to a large clump of grass at its feet.

"Doctor?"

"Yeah?"

"Should we run?"

"No, not yet. It doesn't have any interest in us at the moment. But if we move..."

"It comes after us."

"Right. Not a good thing."

"Yeah, I got that. How big is it anyway?"

"Over two thousand pounds. Not something you want to have step on your foot."

She nodded and glanced towards the little blue box some distance away...on the other side of the creature. "So, how are we supposed to get back to the TARDIS?"

"I don't know. I thought I said that already."

"Just making sure. I think I have an idea."

"What?"

"Watch and see." She slowly reached down and, supporting herself on the Doctor's arm, removed one of her trainers. Hefting it in one hand, she threw it toward the creature's head. The animal looked up as the shoe landed on the ground next to its head. It sniffed the object before glancing towards its source.

"Rose," the Doctor asked softly. "What are you doing?"

"Just wait," she replied as she carefully removed her other shoe. Making sure the creature's eyes were on it, she tossed it as far as she could to her right.

The animal slowly ambled towards the discarded trainer as Rose turned a triumphant grin on the Doctor. The two of them quickly made their way to the TARDIS, having to run the last few metres when the creature decided to come for them. As they slammed the door shut and leaned against it, they heard the animal thunder past the TARDIS.

When the sound had faded, the Doctor turned to glare at Rose. "That really wasn't a good idea, Rose. What if it had decided to attack?"

"Well it didn't, did it? And aren't you gonna say thanks?"

"For almost getting me trampled by a bison? Now, why would I say that?"

Rose rolled her eyes. "Oh, of course. Never say thank you to the ape that just saved you from becoming a Time Lord pancake!"

"Fine then," he sighed. "Thank you, Rose, for distracting that buffalo."

She grinned. "You're welcome, Doctor. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a shower with my name written on it. Would you mind going out and getting my shoes?"

"What?! Rose, we just got away from that thing!"

"Yeah but its left now. Should be perfectly safe."

"Rose..."

She shot him a glare before heading off to her room. The Doctor sighed and turned to open the doors. "Ah," he said quietly as he came face to face with a very annoyed bison.
Quickly shutting them again he walked towards the console. Rose would probably rather have some new trainers anyway; those were likely to have fallen in a buffalo pie.
