HAH! One down! This is two for one, y'all, get it while it's hot. Wheeee! And triple thanks to innie_darling, who betaed BOTH tonight, bless her soul. And thanks to y'all for reading. *hugs*
Your fics have such a--a realism about them, a believability that makes the people and the places come alive, and I think this fic is a terrific example of that. I know absolutely nothing about the sea or about fishing, but when I read this I really feel like I'm experiencing things with Dean. More than that, you make the reader care about what's happening, get genuinely invested in the lives of Dean and his crewmates.
The ending was so beautifully bittersweet; I like that you left it ambigous: closed enough to be satisfying but opwn-ended enough that I can imagine that Dean takes the job as a skipper and lets himself (for once) be happy.
In conclusion: you (and this fic) are lovely! <333
Even though I knew there was no way it could ever work out for Dean, a part of me was still hoping. My heart just ached, hearing about Dean's bright future doing something he loved, something he would choose. And then for Dean to go home to John, who put so little value on his son's accomplishments. Or maybe John did know but was afraid to give any encouragement, thinking Dean would take it as permission to bolt. Either way, though, John's attitude and devaluation of Dean was just heartbreaking.

I know Dean wouldn't go against John by taking that job, but sometimes I really wish Dean was a little more selfish.
