Congrats to the Canadian women's hockey team. And the U.S. as well. You had me on the edge of my seat.

Also, of 16 medals this year, 12.5 have been earned by females. In 2006, 16 of 24 were earned by females. Go Girls Go!

I normally don't watch hockey, but I caught part of it and found it exciting, too. :) And what a very interesting statistic. I didn't realize this. Yay for the women!!!

as long as the athletes do their best

Totally. If that's gold then it's awesome, but it's not gold, it absolutely breaks my heart when they feel so guilty for letting the country down. Like that one woman who did the skeleton. D: D: NO, BB, YOU DIDN'T LET ANYONE DOWN, DON'T WORRY.

Oh God, that poor woman. :( I feel so bad for her, she didn't let us down. Hell I'm proud of her for doing so well.

I kinda had to pick this since I don't think we ever win anything. We came 17th in the womens 2 person bobsleigh and that was amazing for us.
Go Canadian women, way to kick ass!

Yay for gold!

I put as long as the athletes do their best. In winter olympics, I mostly watch figure skating and my favourites have rarely been Canadians. I find myself rooting for Russians, Americans and recently Chinese and Koreans.

Then again, I'm really not patriotic or nationalistic so...

God, we're so different. The Olympics are one of the only times I feel like we're on par with the rest of the world. And figure skating, while pretty, isn't the sport of choice for me. Did you see this? http://olympics.thestar.com/2010/article/771590--why-canadian-women-rock-at-the-olympics

I'm happy for these athletes and I'm glad these women are rewarded for their efforts. I'm also happy for the Canadian Olympic organisation (however it's called) that the Canadians are doing so well, but it has nothing to do with my Canadian citizenship. I would be just as happy if it had been the case for another country. Honestly, I think every single athlete should be proud they made it to the Olympics.

My interest in figure skating is probably because I did it for almost five years. I really understand the time, effort, and physical demands of training (it's definitely more than pretty). I like watching a bit of the other things, but I don't follow closely any other particular sport.

Having said that, I did root for the Canadian hockey team as I usually prefer watching team sport by rooting for a particular team. The Canadians seemed like the appropriate choice in that case.

I think everyone has done an amazing job.

Sorry about the pretty remark, I didn't mean to put down figure skating. I recognize that it's exceptionally difficult to partake in.

I had the Sweden/Finland game on and I found it difficult to watch because I wasn't invested in either team, but I didn't want to see one team miss out on the medals. I think that's why I cheer on Canadian athletes no matter the discipline. *look* Not sure that makes sense.

Difficult pol IMO. The athletes are all fantastic for getting to the olympics, but I chose total medals for judging their success. (I was so close to going with the doing their best choice though) But WTG athletes and I do have to say, AWESOME Olympics. Looking forward to watching the rest of the speed skating tonight:):)

It really is a tough decision. I'm so immensely proud of all of the athletes, but I keep hearing about the success/failure of Own the Podium. We've beat our Gold medal record, but I don't think we'll meet the total number of medals that we won in Turin.
