Daniel's Apartment: Prom. Um. Sure.

Janet was still trying to decide between three dresses. She'd gone to Stuff For Sale and chatted with Cameron, Isabel, Sam and Parker and Liz, as well as Alanna and the somewhat-late D'anna.

At least it had been relaxing after a fascinating, if somewhat frustrating, conversation with Angel during ACJ earlier in the day. Plus she couldn't bribe

Daniel woke before she did, and was lying in bed next to her. He leant his head on his arm and just watched her.

Daniel took a deep breath. "Janet, I'm really, really sorry that I didn't realize that it was prom and that I didn't ask you to go with me," he said in a rush.

"Oh," said Janet quietly. She glanced away. "It's not like we could have gone together anyway." She looked back. "Wait, you realized it was prom? I figured you hadn't noticed it."

"Um. Sam might have pointed it out to me yesterday after class," he said quietly.

"I see," said Janet. "Thank you for apologizing." She sighed. "I suppose I can't kill Sam for interfering in my love life, given that I've done worse to her."

"Janet, I love you. If I could, I'd take you to any dance that you wanted," Daniel said. "But yeah, at the moment that something I can't do." He almost smiled. "Please don't. I'm glad she told me. You know what I'm like with these things; they just pass me by. But I don't want you to pass me by."

"I love you too, Daniel," said Janet. "And I know it's just a stupid high school dance, but when are we going to be able to be together without hiding it?" She sighed and leaned her head on his chest. "You're very oblivious sometimes. I know." Janet shrugged. "I guess Sam suggested you chaperone so we could moon over each other from across the room."

"Well, when you're eighteen and I can't theoretically be arrested for statutory rape is a start," Daniel sighed. He wrapped his arms around her. "I know, I know. These things passed by me during my time in high school, and I guess I've not improved now I'm teaching at one. She did. She also said that you might be going with Elizabeth."

"Yes, Daniel, thank you," said Janet. "That was a rhetorical question. Do you really think that my legal guardian--who is General Hammond, by the way--would press charges?" She rolled her eyes at him, but smiled happily as he put his arms around her. "You might want to start paying attention to the school announcements, then." Janet blushed. And hid her face against Daniel's chest. "Oh, yeah," she said in a muffled voice. "She kind of asked me because she told everyone we were going together."

"Oh!" Daniel blushed slightly. "And I'm sure the General wouldn't." He kissed the top of her head. "I'll try that next year," he promised. "And even socialize more with my fellow teachers." Daniel stroked her hair, and hesitated. "Well, I'm sure you'll have more fun going with her than going alone?" he said.

"He might be awfully surprised, though," said Janet. She glanced up at him. "Socialize? You? Are you feeling all right?" Her eyes fluttered closed as his hand ran through her hair. "I was too busy trying to convince Sam she wasn't going to do something stupid to answer. So I don't even know what's going on."

"Well, yes. Can we not tell him yet? And make sure he's sitting down when he does find out?" Daniel asked, slightly pleadingly. He chuckled slightly. "I said I'd try. Sam? Do something stupid?" He scoffed slightly. "As if that would ever happen. And finding out what's going on might me a good thing, I think."
