Slashing Supernatural

Sep 14, 2005 08:48

Nice to see that I wasn't the only one who enjoyed Supernatural :-) Not that I'm letting my fragile broken heart trust that it'll stay on air now that I've decided I like it. No, siree. You fooled me four times once, but you're not doing it again. I shall enjoy it while I can and take each week as it comes ( Read more... )

*squishes you*

This is a lot of my thought, yes. Of course it helps that that's not a squick of mine and even a kink when done right, but yes. That is so them. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, fandomwise, since so much of fandom is often ship-driven. And even without that, at the moment we're working with a very limited character pool.

I am trusting my heart, because I can't help it, it's the way I am. Please do not let the WB betray me again!

LJ didn't send me this! After the disappearing comments from last night, that's freaky :;quivers::

It's an incredibly limited pool, you're right, and there's loads of potential for gen, episode-type fics, but if you want to ship them you've really got no one else to do it with but each other. That's really, really unusual.

And it could contribute to the demise as most of the viewers won't even see the slash and will miss having a romance. Or maybe they won't be watching for that. Huh. Hard to say; I've accepted that I'm no longer watching shows the way I used to.

Let's hope this one gets to stay a while :;snuggles you::

I watched it last night as well. I thought it was kind of cool and the ending surprised me. This is a great post! I can't remember who said 'I don't watch shows the same way I used to' - very interesting - because *I* still do, in spite of being involved in fandom and all kinds of couples and couplings.

I find that now I write I read books differently and now I write fanfic I watch shows with an eye to them being a source of inspiration for fic.

And I see slash sub-text and potential probably far more than I should ::g::

I can't agree more! kagyakusha September 14 2005, 15:54:19 UTC
And the girlfriend's name was Jess --- which my sister & my mother thought was a subtle reference to Gilmore Girls slash because the guy who plays Sam was "Dean" on Gilmore Girls, and Jess is a character with which you could apparently slash Dean. (I don't watch GG. I don't know)

I really really like the concept that would HAVE to be behind any slash that came out of this show.

Jess! yes; I remember now you've said it ::g:: Never watched the other shows that they were on; I know the names are confusing people though :-)

Incest has never been a squick for me. If it's consensual and no kids are produced, who cares? Might as well.
And yes, i have siblings, and god no would i ever sleep with them. But hey.

Uh - Sam wasn't unfaithful, no. But now his gf is dead, his 'normal' life is smashed to hell - he has a 'mission' and yes, it will be much easier for himt to turn to his big brother for comfort and reassurance.

So - let's get crackin' on that brother!Slash.

::nods:: I try not to apply blanket judgements and as far as sex is concerned if it's consenting adults and, as you say, no risk of producing damaged babies then I don't see it as a problem although it's a very deeply instilled taboo and hard to be objective about.

And as he met Jess after leaving home, and he was an adult when he left it's perfectly in order to have him and Dean together before he went to college...

Yup yup, consenting - hot bois - uh....
Right - what's the problem again?
*snerk*

Ooh, that's right, too.
*bounce*
*waits patiently for fic*

the girlfriend was safe right up until the moment that Sam returned to the fight?

Interesting that you say this, because I was thinking last night that it's actually just the opposite. That for some reason or another, the 'Thing' wants/needs Sam in the game. He was willing to give him some time to 'play' at being normal, but when the do or die choice came, Sam picking the normal life just wasn't gonna fly.

Girlfriend was killed moments before Sam got into the apartment (VM from earlier in ep, fresh cookies, shower running) - why that moment, why not earlier or even later? The timing really makes me think it was about getting Sam back in the game. Which also leads to the idea that killing the mom was about creating a catalyst for the dad to start hunting & training his sons to do the same.

I really hope that they go with there being more to the mom's & girlfriend's deaths - and that they already know what that something is! Nothing worse than an arc that is made up on the fly *cough*X-Files*cough*.

Ooh, yes, I suppose that does make more sense! But that's really sick and ends justifying the means of someone, isn't it? ::ponders::

I hope that they know where they're going too!
