My parents were all about having a politically aware six-year old daughter. I was very well acquainted with Persian Gulf politics in the late 80s and early 90s. Don't ask me why they thought this was a good idea. I must have creeped the heck out of normal grown-ups.

(My favorite thing to do when I was 7 was listen to Double Exposure on the radio, once a nerd, always a nerd!)

I started caring about politics when I moved to Ontario, but it was Newfoundland politics I became interested in. I still care a lot about what's going on back home, and probably always will.

I grew up aware of politics, and I have idiosyncratic reasons to care what's going on in each of the places one might think are my "back home."
