When I'm driving down a residential street behind another car and they slow down and there's a driveway on the left and none on the right, I normally assume they're about to turn into that driveway and refrain from attempting to pass them on the left. But that's just me.

When I'm driving down the street, and the car in front of me wants to slow down to turn left into their driveway, I expect them to use their indicator. Oh, but wait, they're American, and probably have a phone clamped to their ear, and don't have a hand free to press that mysterious little stick on the side of their steering wheel, and why did anyone put that inconvenient thing there anyway?

In theory people use turn signals, but I so rarely see anyone use them for driveway turns that I would never expect them to do so. In this case, the driver was me. *g* Sure, technically I should've signaled, and I'll make a note to do so next time, but the driver behind me was jumping the gun for more than one reason.

You and a hundred million other Americans, yeah, I know, hence the rant!

There are people in Britain who don't indicate, but in the US it's a freaking epidemic, and I just don't understand why. Is it really so much extra effort to press that stick down? What form of laziness is it that means so few people can be bothered to make that one second single finger effort to let other road users and pedestrians know what they plan to do ( ... )

I can only guess that it's because they think of driveways as roads. In actual lanes and real road turns, I do see people signal all the time, though there are a few who don't. For me, I guess it's just because I rarely have anyone around me when I'm pulling into the driveway. I know if I'd hit the chick yesterday, it would've been legally my responsibility, but she was still a dink for a couple of reasons. *g*

I hate it when I'm waiting to cross and I motion an approaching driver to go but they slow down and there's this minute of staring and I always went to yell at them that it would be FASTER for them to just GO in the first place.

Seconded. And it applies just as well when you're in a car waiting to pull out of a side turning, and the car you're waiting for didn't bother to let you know they were going to turn right. Happens all the damn time.
