I went into this briefly on quiet_charm (like the plug, calledinvain? ;) ) but since sevarem asked, I'm posting how I was drawn into the beautiful rare ship of Cedric and Cho.
I have to say, I'm a hardcore R/Hr shipper and a little part of me still gets the urge to start arguing with anyone who admits to liking H/Hr.
I always thought Cho/Cedric was cute, but was never too interested in it. I suppose since they're both minor characters, your enjoyment of the ship would depend of what authors can put into their fics, no?
I'm always shocked when people tell me they've read the books out of order. EEP. I'm just anal and can't imagine reading any series out of order. What's worse is skipping books -- I know a girl who skipped OotP and went on to HBP

I like(d) H/Hr because Hermione is more developed as a character than Ginny. But I understand the angle JKR is going with. It's like Star Wars - Luke / Leia / Han. With Harry=Luke, Leia=Hermione, Han=Ron. Not necessarily personality-wise, but in the sense that the Harry/Hermione bond is platonic (JKR won't let it get more than platonic) and that Hermione/Ron is the romance

Oh.. forgot to answer your question. I think comparing the movies to the books is like apples and oranges ;) I always like books better than their movie counterparts (like To Kill A Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, etc.). I think for the most part, the movies are good with basic plot/action but if you want to dive into more complicated subplots, books are better. Generally, books are better with character development too, but with HP, as it is only Harry's POV, only certain characters seem to develop.
But I do think I like the movie Prisoner of Azkaban better than the book. (sorry!) Just because I liked how the movie had Lupin & Black on the same side (instead of each suspecting the other as the book did). And I like the fatherly role of Lupin toward Harry. Of course, I wish they would have showed all the quidditch games in the movie (that part of the book I liked ;). I'd have to go back and read PoA to see if my opinion has changed.
I think I like Percy/Penelope and Fred/Angelina for much the same reasons. They don't get a lot of development, so it leaves much to my imagination.
I understand disliking Cho for canon reasons, but I could never understand the "she's a bitch/slut/ho!" reactions.
I wouldn't say Harry has no taste, but I do think he liked Cho for mostly physical reasons. They hardly knew each other at that point, but it makes sense for a first crush.
