Review: Sherlock Holmes [Second Viewing!]

Jan 01, 2010 01:12

So, I went to see ‘Sherlock Holmes’ again. The entire time my face was like this: =D

Sooo gooood. Soooo awesome.

While there weren’t many things from the actual mystery that I missed, I did miss some bits of Holmes/Watson interaction. I was probably laughing too hard, or mentally squeeing and incidentally blocked it out the first time.

Spoilers, squee & probably way off speculation on characterizations found here. )

The slash goggles are impossible to take off! They practically hand you a pair from the first Holmes/Watson scene. =D

*beams* Thanks! But don't worry about credit. I really don't care when I'm altering screencaps.

It's true, the slash goggles come with the tickets for this one. I think one of my favorite scenes is when he's waiting for Watson and Mary at the restaurant and he can't shut off his brain, looking at all of the little clues around him, hearing every conversation, it's clearly almost overwhelming. Then Watson shows up and the world practically narrows down to him, he's totally focused on that conversation. And when he offends them and Watson leaves...how he sits there and all the noise and clatter and chaos of the world comes flooding back in on him. Somehow I really loved that scene. And I agree, Watson is clearly the only bed where Holmes sleeps well. ^-^

Some movies come with 3-D glasses and some come with slash goggles! =D

That dinner scene was brilliant. I love that it showed how Holmes' own mind doesn't give him any rest. I kind of understand because there's been nights when I haven't been able to sleep because my mind wouldn't shut up but for Holmes it is so much worse. Not only does his mind never shut up, he can't stop noticing everything.

At least not until Watson shows up.

It was such an awesome scene. And it was all shown to us instead of being told which makes the impact all the greater. =D

Watson is clearly the only bed where Holmes sleeps well.

Heh. Maybe that's why Holmes doesn't have a bed that I could see. =D

I'm glad to know that you liked the movie! Did your husband like it too?

I loved how the movie showed Holmes noticing things. That's hard to show instead of telling, but the movie did it perfectly.

Dan liked the movie too! He found it surprisingly free of major plot holes, and it's damn rare he comes out of a modern movie without a dozen quibbles, even with movies he likes (Star Trek and Dark Knight Returns he loved but the plot problems drove him crazy). So both of us are well-satisfied. :) And I'm looking forward to seeing some Holmes/Watson on my flist now. :)

Yes to everything you've said. :)

"Watson, my tongue is getting numb. It's not going to be much use to you like that."

... I mean, really. ♥

"Watson, be gentle with me." - Holmes
"Don't get excited." - Holmes to Watson
"You look gorgeous." - Watson to Holmes

...I swear they are trying to break our brains. And they nearly succeeded on my account.

I usually come to your LJ for your fantastic Kirk/Spock fic (which I have been horribly remiss on commenting on and I apologise for that) but oh, how much have I loved your two Sherlock Holmes squee posts? You have made it necessary for me to see this movie RIGHT NOW so thank you for that. :D

Heh. Don't worry about it. I've been a huge lurker many a times too. =D

I'm glad you're enjoying the Sherlock Holmes posts. And you have got to let me know if you liked it!

Darn you. :p :laughs: I've been trying to avoid watching most movies (not counting Star Trek though, since it's Star Trek), but now you've made me want to see S.Holmes. In theaters no less! I hate theaters. All the talky people interrupting the movie.

:sighs: Oh well. If I do see it in theaters, hopefully the slashiness of it will keep me from noticing the people. :)

but now you've made me want to see S.Holmes.

I'd say sorry but I truly believe the movie is worth it!

I'm not a big theater go-er myself. I only reserve it for those few movies that I get really excited about. For example the next one that I want to see in theaters is Iron Man 2 and that won't be out until May. But I really enjoyed Sherlock Holmes so I had to see it again.

I can guarantee that there is so much slashiness that you practically drown in it. =D

And you have got to tell me if you liked it if you do got see it! =D

Oh, I will definitely let you know one way or the other when I see it. :D Be it in theaters or on dvd. I'm looking forward to the slashiness, even if it means the sequel is under threat. :( :sighs:
