Greetings from Santa Barbara. I'm having a blast on this trip so far and it's only day three (four if you count the day I spent entirely on a plane).

On Sunday we got to see quite a bit of San Francisco, had breakfast in the Castro and lunch at Fisherman's Wharf, overlooking the sea-lions, before driving down to Monterey and meeting sleepherealone for dinner ( Read more... )

I read Santa Barbara and instantly thought "Psych." :p

It's been several years since I was in CA, but I was in Los Angeles(I do not care for L.A.)/Anaheim for an ACS conference, and we ditched the conference for one day to go to Joshua Tree National Park(GORGEOUS). Interestingly, the part of the conference I was at was hosted at the Disneyland Hotel. :p I'd left 10-foot snowdrifts at home, so at the time, southern California was fucking wonderful.

Glad you're having a good time over on the other side of the pond! Not too surprised you don't want to live here though. Can't wait to see photos, I've wanted to go to San Francisco for awhile.

We booked this hotel in Santa Barbara before I'd ever seen a single episode of Psych. It's just wonderful happenstance.

I don't think it's supposed to be as hot here as it is right now, but I'm not complaining. I left snow at home. It's been great to do a proper road trip and see more of the state. The drive down from Monterey was spectacular.

Sometimes I think I'd love to live here. I've met some of the best people and made good friends, and it really is beautiful. I guess everyone thinks about that stuff once in a while.

Thank you! There will be lots of photos eventually. :D

To be fair, Santa Barbara also makes me think of Sue Grafton's alphabet book series, which also take place there, although she renames the town Santa Theresa. :p

It was in the 80's when I was there in 2003, and it was about the same time of year. We've still got snow here in WI. The locals said it was a current heat wave, and everyone on the news was either from MI(represent!) or AZ. MI tourists loved the hot weather, the people from AZ thought it was cold. :p

Glad you're having a great time! Looks like you got to see Mr Thesealion too!

The wedding was amazing, I'll tell you more about it laters, pictures will be around by the time I get back too. Having a blast here in Florida too, glad your trip is going well, bought myself an awesome NFL replica shirt yesterday which I plan on wearing as often as I can until I can get my hands on a NJ Devils replica shirt for less than $70 (only paid $36 for the NFL, Claire's Tampa Bay Buccaneers one is a kid's one and we got it for <$25, so that's awesome!!) Car rental is expensive!!

Today (Wednesday) is Disney day for me, going to Epcot today, hope you enjoy yours too! (Probably Magic Kingdom tomorrow, can't wait for that either!)
