I just had a thought (sort of a revalation) about Jack's relationship to Ianto and to Gwen. Cut for rambling.

I think Jack told him, or even bring Ianto with him on Flat Holm sometime... dunno, maybe it's just a feeling... but the way Jack quickly realize it was Ianto who told Gwen and the nurse saying that "It's your first time here?" to Gwen... I think it's because someone else from TW was there before!

Yeah I got the feeling too... but I can never be too sure it's not just my fangirl wishful thinking.

I think part of the reason he shared more with Gwen in series one was that she knew he couldn't die from the off. The others didn't know but she'd seen it. Which explains why he could tell her about Estelle and not the others... and it's also why he asked her to take him to the open space in End of Days, because he still hadn't explained to the others about his not-dying properly.

I think I totally agree with u! That's my theory too from the beginning!
Jack cares for Gwen 'cause she's his humanity... he learned it back from her getting close to her but his new humanity pushed him in Ianto's direction 'cause, after "Fragments", I'm even more convinced than before that the first to "fall" in the Janto romance was Jack! *nods*

Totally agree! And Ianto's betrayal in CW maybe made Jack become unsure of what Ianto really felt for him when their sexual relationship begun... so now I understand even his quite sad look in CJH when he said "There's no one." to the other Jack...

Ok... I'll quit here... LOL

I never really saw Gwen as a threat to Jack and Ianto as some have commented. I do like how you see the Gwen/Jack relation. I think you have hit on it. In episode 2.1 when Jack notices the ring I took this as Jack was surprised that anything changed in his absence, not that he was interested in Gwen the same at Ianto. In Something Borrowed I saw that Gwen reminded Jack of that special connection of committed partners (his past marriage). All this has let him move on and develop a relationship with Ianto. Thank you for bringing this up.

Agreed...I really feel that people who want him to be in love with Gwen, are just in love with the idea. She never believed he was coming back. That right there says a lot to me.

I agree with you so much!

I think series one it was just sexual attraction and lust... and they both needed someone. Then Jack went away with The Doctor and realised how much he missed Ianto and that Ianto only gets one chance at life. So when he came back he wanted to make it something more... As did Ianto because he missed Jack too.

Jack loves Gwen...but in a best friend/ family kind of way. I think in a sense she reminds him of Rose... Rose who changed his life so irreversably (and not just the immortality) and I think he envies Gwen... he wants to have what Gwen has...'a normal life', because Gwen is SO ordinary and normal...in a good way! And i think he is a bit envious of that...no?

Anyways i agree with you, thanks for posting! x

Exactly what I was thinking :-) I think that in S1 Jack was still in love with the Doctor(9), or the idea he had of the Doctor, and took Ianto only as someone to pass the time until he can be with him (the Doctor) again ( ... )
