Jate Month
I decided something last night. We, as Jaters, can either let promos and the obvious yet tasteless turn into Skate world that TPTB has taken bum us out.
Or we can rebel, fight the power, prove Jate superiority, proclaim far and wide the greatness that is Jack and Kate's love.
So I bring you: Jate Month.
I propose that we make November 2006 Jate Month. A month were there will be multitudes of fics, essays, icons, graphics, pic-spams, fanmixes, fanvids, whatever fannish thing you can think of, all in the name and honor of Jate.
I, myself, have decided to write 50,000 words worth of Jate. Anything from one shots, an interconnected one-shot series, maybe even a chaptered story if I can work out the kinks of long story arcs to my liking. But there will be Jate and it will be plentiful.
There will be fluff. There will be angst. There will be squeeing. There will be beautiful colors. There will be wonderful music. There may even be confirmation from TPTB that Jate is coming in the spring.
But one thing is for certain that; When doubt about Jack and Kate ever being together arises, we will be there to prove they belong together and it will be so. When Skate thoughts arise, we will be there to beat them away with the Jesus stick that is Jate. When the hiatus comes, we will make even Skaters believe it was really Jate that happened in the fall season instead of Skate.
Ignore the celebrating from Skaters. Ignore the writers' lack of common sense and continuity. Ignore even your little brother/sister/parent/significant other/best friend who mocks you endlessly for "being wrong" about the triangle.
This isn't giving up or sinking into denial. Not by a long shot. I firmly believe that we will get Jate in the end. This is a means to ease the pain that season three has brought Jaters. This is a way to prove that we will stand by our ship, through all the mocking and lies, through evil promos and equally evil writers, through everything Jate will have to go through to find each other.
Because Jate is Fate.
I extend this challenge to every Jater in fandom. You don't have to write nearly as much as I am. That's my own personal challenge/NaNoWriMo. Make a promise to yourself and your ship and that you'll write a story at least ten chapters long. Or ten song fics. Or even that you'll finally post that fic you've had floating around your computer for the past three months. Whatever fits your writing style and speed. But make it a challenge. Strive to do something above and beyond.
Not a writer? Make 50 or 100 icons. Or headers. Or wallpapers. Or layouts. Or moodthemes.
Not a graphically apt person? Make pic-spams. Make fanmixes. Make fanvids. Support those who take the challenge by commenting to their posts. Tell fellow Jaters about this challenge. There are a hundred things to do and only a month to do them in.
We best get started.
