Captain Jack Harkness stood with his team in a sea of uniforms and blood red poppies. He had lived and fought through both world wars, and on this day at the eleventh hour, he forgot about being ready for the future, and focused on the past.
"How many times did you die in the war?" Gwen whispered in his ear.
"It doesn't matter. I didn't stay dead."
His eyes blurred as he retreated into sorrowful memory…
But when he felt gloved fingers weave through his own, he glanced down at her and remembered that some things were worth fighting for.
