Hey MaxMSP lovers

I just happened upon Pure Data, an open source alternative developed by the original designer of the Max language. I have no idea how good it is (and am not really in a position to evaluate it what with the musical illiteracy and all). Just thought someone out there might be thinking "damn, I love MaxMSP but it is really expensive/won't run on

Out of curiousity, what do you use MaxMSP for? I've looked at it as a music tool, but never got all that serious.
