It is. I've taken a couple of classes from Bob Charron and I really like his interpretation, and I admit that that is strongly coloring my understanding.

The dagger plays are just so perfect and when you get them right there is nothing your opponent can do. If you get the timing wrong, then your opponent applies the counter and you get hosed.

Beautiful stuff.

Instant negative reinforcement - now, that would be helpful. Half my fencing problems would be solved if my opponents took advantage of them more often. I guess it's just that there's no one with a whole lot of experience in club.

I need to broaden my horizons.

One thing I really miss here in the desert is working on Fiore. We do a bit of modern Sabre, but its not the same thing. Not that I don't enjoy Sabre, I miss fencing as a martial art. Sport mentality dominates here.

There was a good post from a Maestro on the Classical Fencing list. IIRC it was Sean Hays. He was saying that there is no reason that you can't fencing classically/martially against a modern sport fencer.

In fact (and I believe he used Epee as his example) if you can fight effectively against someone who's only concern is getting the hit, you stand a much better chance against someone who is not willing to throw away their own life.
